  • Song sucks

  • this is so fucking beautiful. it makes me think about life, about death, about everything. i'm suicidal, but this makes me want to live.

  • beautiful song

  • dedo arriba si estas aqui por dross :D

  • top comments are damn classic

  • sounds kinda happy to me? :D

  • vengo aquí por dross!

  • Well. I looked into all of these facts. I could not find one report of a suicide linked to this song on the internet, as beautiful as it may be, I do not think its name is justified.

  • magyar vagyok és a vezeték nevem megelőzi az utónevem...! Seress Rezső nem Rezső Seress

  • ALGUIEN PODRIA TRADUCIR AL ESPANOL POR FAVOR? GRACIAS

  • This makes me want to dance (like a sad ballet sort of dance though), not kill myself...

  • Aight guys, imma commit suicide now.

    *Suicides*

    5 seconds later

    *Respawns*

Damn, how long has it been?

  • wow the words... are so deeep ... *eats candy*

  • @orphicgirl yes, I guess that might be right. With all the history surrounding it, it's strangely fascinating...for me anyway, history has been fascinating me since school. It's always interesting to know the context behind a song, the time it was written...

  • grim...kiss my ass u are not even american..ur gay born after 1980 like all the rest...

  • Hmmmmmm...I wonder where the inspiration of the music from Starwars came from...lmfao

  • Is creepy :S

  • Good song.

  • 24 peoples were commit suicide yesterday

  • For me, it's not the song that gives me this weird feeling, it's the story surrounding it, people mysteriously killing themselves after hearing it. It has a depressing tone, yes, but I certainly wouldn't kill myself because of it...

  • @MystOfOblivion probably it has to do with the course of events during the thirties.. the time was horrible... people were sad and the lyrics... that would make some commit suicide... who was alive during the holocaust.

  • This doesn't make me want to kill myself, it's a fucking beautiful song, makes me glad that I'm alive to listen to it... Justin Bieber makes me want to kill myself.

  • @65hilary48

    heyy thats true.. haha.

  • such a powerful song i love it

  • If anyone killed themself to this song they were probably already depressed and it just gave them a little nudge to finish the job.

  • such a powerful song!,

  • if its too fast to rread, then just pause it !! :L x

  • I like this song :) Btw everyone dies at some point suicide or what ever else

  • So I met death today, he said exactly this "What the fuck is this shit?!?!? A Man cant have a fucking vacation anymore without a song coming out and ruining it. First it was "Gloomy Sunday" which might i say was actually a good jam, but then you gotta come out with "Baby" by Justin and then worst of all "Friday"!!! I just wanna relax jeez! No wonder Gloomy Sunday doesnt work. YOU'VE ALREADY HEARD WORST!!!" I put my gun down, patted him on the back and said "Im sorry to hear that..." :P

  • I can't lie, I do feel some sort of sorrow in my heart whenever I hear this song...

  • I believe that the depression this piece brings will no longer have the same effect like back in the old times. majority are no longer into classics. but don't worry, there's still an alternative. if you want to commit suicide, just buy bieber's album or just stalk him in the net. if you can't commit suicide, just were an "i love jb" shirt and parade your way outside and scream " I LOVE JUSTIB BIEBER!" and your neighbor will do it for you. tweet the results after

  • Never commit suicide TODAY, you would be unable to commit another stupidity TOMORROW o_o

  • ... Thumbs up if you can read the text fast enough, and you don't need to pause this...

    Death is my wish

  • guys after listening to this song, try to listen on loud and happy songs.. and you will experience an slightly headache!! like brain freeze!!

  • so, you mean this song was... the song of the grim reaper?

oh my, I heard back masked songs because they says that it was the devil messaged songs and after you heard that song you can see the devil

  • the song has no lyrics?

  • Beautiful. So haunting and nostalgic.

  • 1:00... I have the same record, that keeps getting stuck, in the same spot, on my victrola... and my victrola, only plays, full volume... o_o *worried look* o_o and it's a 78rpm record. and i've played over, and over... thankfully I've not killed myself, and won't.

  • I rather like it personally.

  • If this is sad I am Vivaldi. This suck.

  • Story is bullshit.

  • A beautiful song though

  • omg ppl grow up its just music >.< sheesh... the song doesnt make ppl commit suicide, that has to be a part of wat is in their head already, something that they were already contemplating, it does sound sad enough that ppl would put this on as their finale though... however it must have been something that they had already planned

  • Javor Laszlo wrote the lyrics....

  • Did the song originally have lyrics or were they added by someone other than Rezso Seress ?

  • Thank you very much for this. Now off to commit suicide... ( kidding! ;) Suicide is no laughing matter but people do not just out of the blue go commit suicide just beacuse they heard a song! Those people were obviously already depressed / suicidal and so therefore could very much relate to this...

  • where can I find this version? or who are playing?

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz beng....!..haha

  • the woman died on overdose of barbiturates, MARILYN MONROE ??

  • Slow the fuck down I cant read that fast, you are making me feel like a retard trying to read this.....FML im killing myself

  • @IG0Commando Just pause it. That`s what i did! Hope you`re still alive.... ;)

  • my sorrows are all in vain

People are heartless, greedy and wicked...

    Love has died!

The world has come to its end, hope has ceased to have a meaning

Cities are being wiped out, shrapnel is making music

Meadows are coloured red with human blood

There are dead people on the streets everywhere

I will say another quiet prayer:

People are sinners, Lord, they make mistakes...

    The world has ended!

  • @cunninglinguist1889 Have u ever heard something that we called "PAUSE BUTTON"???

  • This was played at Morticia and Gomez's wedding reception.

  • Fuck how fast do you think we can read?

  • @cunninglinguist1889 That's why there's a pause button... isn't the internet awesome?

  • Comment removed

  • Beautiful song. Filled with such strong meaning just so emotional and beautiful. This is what all music should sound like, filled with deep emotions that just get to you.

  • Assbags, They didnt put the real song on youtube, You think that youtube would let a suicide song be on youtube? Pfft, retards.

  • this has metal potential

  • @mouthforwar17 i hope you die. i really do. don't you dare engourge people to taint the beauty and sarrow of this peice! (and i say that as a person who listens to a lot of metal.)

  • @GrimImpaler ok well that ur opinion but..u are an asshole..i just want you to know that..clearly theres 13 other people that agree with me so..im just gonna let it be at that

  • @mouthforwar17

i've done it with lots of fine tuned distortion. it sounds awesome! i don't have a video camera yet to put it online. BUT YES, it does sound awesome. best i figured, it is is G/G#m. yes, i'll come up with something soon!

  • @jaster94

  • I like this song it beautiful but why i don't feel depress like everyone do?

  • I like this song it beautiful but why i don't feel depress like everyone do?

  • I love this song, it is truly a musical masterpiece. It's gloomy and dreary, but not suicidal unless you are already extremely depressed.

  • why 100 people died when thay listed that song???

  • I pooped after I heard this song.

  • I feel sad now :(

  • @littlejapan3

    haha me too :'(

  • Death is a joy, if it makes sense. Greetings from Bulgaria.

  • This song is surprisingly good. And I want to pull out my dick and suck it.

  • Playing this song 3 days in a row now ..

My neighbours still haven't killed thereselves ..

    What more can I do ? :P

I feel this is a beautyfull song, lots of emotions..

  • Seress did commit suicide in 1968, but most other rumors of the song being banned from radio, or sparking suicides, are unsubstantiated, and were partly propagated as a deliberate marketing campaign.[Taken from News article]

  • I committed suicide after hearing this.

  • this song is sad, I need a way to put this off my head, goodbye

  • liiike this suicide songg *_*

  • liiike this suicide songg *_*

  • Nice story but Seress composed the music for a poem by László Jávor. Anyway, it's a great song!

  • @kekiir proof that online translators suck

  • Rezso Seress was Hungarian. Hungarians have a reputation as being the gloomiest nation in Europe, as many of them had a pessimistic attitude and were clinically depressed. Gloominess, depression, and suicide have always been apart of this culture. They also had the highest suicide rate in the world, shown by a study. Just a little history before you come to the conclusion that once this song was played, mass amounts of people jumped out the window because it triggered them to do it.

  • @repeatdreaming Do not post what you do not know. Hungary was the most oppressed nation in the buffer states by the Soviet Union. I know this, I am an immigrant.

  • @repeatdreaming i agree with you, but suicide has more to do with history than "culture"

  • urgh! shit i died with my bestfriend beside me . T.T ... [kamusta mga kapitbahay nmin jan ..kaway kaway !!!!]xD

  • @08niknakz baliw ka ata!!

  • I think this would only want someone to commit, if they themselves were originally feeling depressed

  • it's a song about war not suicide

  • @nicknighthawk. Actually, the lyrics at the end of the video does not belong to the song. It is not about suicide, it is about lost love.

  • @nicknighthawk

    The lyrics:

Gloomy Sunday with one hundred white flowers, I waited for you, my dear, with prayers from church, Sunday morning that drives away dreams, the cart of my sorrow returned without you, since then Sundays are always sad, tears are my only drink and my bread is my sorrow..

  • @nicknighthawk

    Gloomy sunday...

Last Sunday, my dear, come, there will be a priest, a coffin, catafalque and hearse-cloth, then, too, flowers will await you, flowers and - a coffin, under trees with flowers will be my last journey, my eyes will be open to see you once again, don't be afraid of my eyes, I will bless you even in death.

Not a good translation, but you can easily spot the difference.

  • With this song so depressing what I have only wanted to do is go to toilet to shit. Free Willy!!!

  • This piece speaks to me....

  • I drink wine while this song plays in the background, I wear pearls and red lipstick and nothing more.

    oh woe is me

  • cant see the letters with this plastic bag over my head. whats it sayin?

  • @kozakhanda Lol!

  • @kozakhanda This made my day so much better. This is so great :DD

  • @kozakhanda LOL X 10!

  • HI SA MAMA KO

  • are u dead?

  • this song makes do nothing except get educated in joint/spliff rolling technique, alot of them went through haha :D:D:D:D seriously, piece of shit song really..

  • You just forgot or do'nt know that Seress was an Hungarian Jew, and the time the song was written was the time when Hitler came up .

Also Seress was deported to labor camp, was not easy to survived it, but He survived, Many years after that he commited suicide.

It's not only the song but the time of nazis and after that the comunism that influenced his spirit. Many intelectuels, mainly jews commited siucide in that time.

Zweig, Klaus Mann, Primo Levi.. and others]

  • @egrosz well said, it's mainly because of the historical context that this song turned out to be a suicide song

  • @magicprophecy

    Thanks !

  • If you listen at 1:50 you can hear a whisper going 'Shhh'. Thumbs up if you hear it too!

  • i used to play the piano too. and it helps me reflect all of my emotions. and all the people who could hear such music will feel the same way like i do.

this music is very beautiful. it haunts. it retains. it kills.

  • wow, what a song. PLEASE, who played this version/rendition. this is the best recording i've found. i've got to buy the CD, please, i know seress did this song, but who did this recording? thanks..........

  • @jaster94

well, after 4 hrs of searching, i've found out the artist who did this version/rendition. thanks..............

  • The whole music and the accords are in C minor, and there is not response to any musical sentence in this song.

That's most likely the reason of the appearance of the emotional instabilities in people, specially the ones with pre-psychological histories, at least in my opinion.

  • I LOve This song

  • @SuperPianoman777

i know seress wrote the song, BUT, who recorded this version/rendition? this is the best recording out of all of them i've listened to. please, someone name the artist who done this recording. i've got to buy the CD.....thanks.......

  • @jaster94 it's from the OST of a movie called Gloomy Sunday: Ein Lied von Liebe und Tod, this is track number

    2, called Gloomy Sunday

  • po prostu najlepszy!!!!!

  • And later the composer killed him self...

  • LOL TOM SEMEN..gutted.

  • i was feel sleepy when i listen this song

  • The song is very beautiful.

  • this doesn't make me want to kill myself

it makes me want to make passionate sensual love

  • so beautiful melody, It is so peaceful yet you can feel so much pain in it as well.... its dreamy

  • you got the description from the book called "Strange but True" didn't you?

  • @RVSV7 he did lol

i ahve the book aswell :D

  • this is really dangerous video....

  • Wow this is powerful. First heard in the film about the dude who wrote it. Really captures the mood between WW1 and WW2.

  • did any1 research the suicide incident if its true?

  • heh.. there is no a true word in this tex t:D

  • heh.. there is not a true word in this tex t:D

  • y didnt they play this in front of hitler,ww2 would have stop shy b4 poland

  • @TchaikovskyFDR he probably heard it, and thats why he was such an ass to the rest of the world -.-

  • @TchaikovskyFDR

The problem with this is, only these hear, who want to hear it. Truth really boils down to the simplest things.

  • @TchaikovskyFDR Technically Hitler did end up killing himself xD.

  • beautiful

  • Very funny translation of the songtext, unfortunately it´s nothing to do with the Hungarian original...!!Topic of the song is not the end of the world, but an unfulfilled love! Here you have the translation of the beginning:

Sorrowful sunday with hundreds of white flowers

I´ve been waiting for you my love with a prayer

    Old -dreams-raising sunday morning

Without you,the cradle of my sorrows came back...

    Greets from Hungary :)

  • @piriholan it is very true looked up the translation

  • I actually find this song quite calming. It sounds great!

  • i think im kinda freaked out by all the suicidal tales..

  • i so fucking love this :X

  • Also didn't Seress's girlfriend come back to him and as a result of his playing the song and her being the inspiration behind it, caused her to commit suicide by poisoning in their apartment?

Just a story I was told while studying music.

  • Way to RUIN a classic.........................

  • now watch the movie GLOOMY SUNDAY, which really is worth watching.. heart touching.. aahhhhh.... incrediblly done

  • please research this again, the story is untrue - Seress wrote this in Hungary, and his friend Jávor László is the poet of the song - and the translation of the lyrics is also wrong.

  • @hunorita I read that he took the accompanied this to his friends poem as well.

  • @Due2Aids

Although Seress wrote a poem to this song (Vége a Világnak), however, these lyrics were never used.

In terms, the László Jávor poem has been used ever since.

  • this is beautiful<3

i didn't read the words because i didn't want to hear about all the dreadful things right before i go to bed. i read a few, the lady who gassed herself, the man who jumped and the man who shot himself in the head. .___.

but if you close your eyes and listen to just the music, it's really quite lovely<3.

  • well ive played it for like million times on my laptop.its nice. i wish they have rnb version for gloomy sunday.

  • @ejay1mc5 are u serious ???????????????

  • How lovely would this sound if played on violin

  • @LilyLilacs I spoke too soon. It IS played on violin! Lovely~

  • This is like the opposite to "The best joke ever", by the Monty Python.

  • It started raining when i played this song . . . sweet irony.

  • Hehe... I quite like this song tbh.
