I made that comment a year ago! And in all that time you haven't been able to discern the difference between the two performances. This is a different performance of the same song but its not the performance from Life on Planet Groove - i've had that album for over 16 years. And if you really want to educate yourself search for the the 1972 original version by The J.B.'s which also includes Maceo and Fred. But anyway, no need to argue! Just enjoy them all!!
I think this might be of some relationship to "Fred Wesley and the JB's - Mo' Peas" - Possibly they like peas (Mushed or otherwise) so much they kept the theme. Or else its relevence grew with JB's death they felt like he'd 'passed the peas' onto the the next, slightly younger, generation. Maybe not.
Pt 1...This is definitely funk at it's best. Maceo and the JB Horns are the funkiest horn section and singers, and they are working with The Meters, who are pioneers in funk music. Absolutely amazing. However, realize that the artists were not paid for this disc. Before you buy it here, check at the message board at the Funky Meters website, where someone can get you a much better price on this one. Same with Volume 2. Rather than support a foreign company who doesn't pay ...Continue Pt. 2
These are definitely Maceo, Fred and Pee Wee, but it isn't the version from "Live on Groove". As the title already tells, it's live, and what crowd wouldn't go mad listening to Maceo and his funkin' friends?
This isn't a Meters song. It's an old James Brown song. This recording is by Maceo Parker. The name of the albulm is 'Live on Planet Groove'. Obviously Fred Wesley is on the bone in this song. Maceo and Fred on the same albulm, it's awesome. I love the Meters but this isn't one of their recordings.
Pazzu - You're right, this isn't a Meters song, but it isn't from Life on Planet Groove. I've owned that Maceo albulm for twelve years! This is from "Funky Good Time Live At Moonwalker" - a live Meters album featuring the JB horns. And that makes it special...
@BobbyA1985 This is from "Funky Good Time Live At Moonwalker" - a live Meters album featuring the JB horns - i.e Maceo, Fred and Pee-wee Ellis. And that makes it special...
DrMcSex, You are very correct in saying this is Maceo along with the JB horns. However, you are also very incorrect in saying this is not the Meters. Look up the album "Funky Good Time Live At Moonwalker". It's a live Meters album featuring the JB horns. ;)
ah but yet sir i would include that your theory on the matter is i c e too incorect mmm yes indeed. for thow band is now called the funky meters and not just he meters, so there for, in the light of the evidance, you can not call them the meters, for would you call oysterhead phish? dear i say NO!!! could you say my good sir that? i dear think not....lol there a bit diffrent being a music head you can tell the difrance even in tempo its more funk then grove i say. but its all good baby!
Ok, that was a little difficult for me to read, so forgive me if I'm misunderstanding you. I don't just have a "theory on the matter", I own the CD. It says, "The Legendary Meters, featuring the JB Horns" on the front of it and it was recorded in 91. The Funky Meters wasn't formed til 94, three years after this album was recorded.
Dudes that IS Maceo Parker. Even IF the Meters sometimes had voices - this clearly is Maceo. Listen to his voice. Listen to his saxophone - nobody else plays like this. Listen to the trumbone and the other sax. That IS Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis. Gosh....
Ok - THIS IS NOT THE METERS! That's Maceo Parker right there. With Fred Wesley and Pee Wee Ellis on horns. HORNS. The Meters never had horns. And they had no vocals. You just copied the Wikipedia entry but you clearly have no idea about The Meters.
change this these aren't the meters
