It is in NO WAY a racist or bigoted story.

I think there is quite a bit of racism present in this cartoon. Many cartoons back then portrayed African Americans as stupid or the butt of a joke. This was demonstrated throughout the media, starting with minstrel shows (around 1840): white people portraying black people as foolish and then showing this caricature to a white audience.

However, it is important to know how black people may feel about cartoon depictions like this. They feel that during this time, in the early years of TV and movies that their culture wasn't being shown accurately. Since those days I think we've all come a long way toward understanding other people and other cultures. We all need to be aware of our history and the truth to teach our kids.

What I find more than a little ironic, is just how people are so "appaulled" by the old-time cartoons that poke fun at black stereotypes, and how people love to point out how "racist" every [white] person was "back then," and how people today are so "enlightened", yet when it comes to stereotyping: ASIANS, MUSLIMS, WHITES, or any other non-black, nobody bat's an eye. Maybe in 50 years, people will look back at shows like 'Family Guy' and think 'Wow, I can't believe they even allowed this on TV!'

In this story, a self-hating white liberal college student gets into an argument with his father about how much "better" the world would be without the "evil white man," and an angel ends up taking him all over the world showing him what life would be like if whites had never been around. It is in NO WAY a racist or bigoted story.

I think there is quite a bit of racism present in this cartoon. Many cartoons back then portrayed African Americans as stupid or the butt of a joke. This was demonstrated throughout the media, starting with minstrel shows (around 1840): white people portraying black people as foolish and then showing this caricature to a white audience.

I have to agree with the majority, that all of these old cartoons should no longer be hidden from the public. However, it is important to know how black people may feel about cartoon depictions like this. They feel that during this time, in the early years of TV and movies that their culture wasn't being shown accurately. Since those days I think we've all come a long way toward understanding other people and other cultures. We all need to be aware of our history and the truth to teach our kids.

I don't think whites are near as racist as others say we are. These days, if we disagree with any non-white, if we say we don't like what they're doing, if we say we don't like them breaking the law, if we say we don't want illegal aliens here (from ANY country), then we're accused of being racist. Back in the old days it must have been incredibly bad living as a black person with no legislation against racism. @FadahRon That's because the person being accused in the courtroom is 8 times more likely to be a black person than a white one. Blacks are targeted by police because they are the ones who commit the lion's share of crimes. And how many blacks are actually trying to get a decent job? Around here they have as many babies as they can to get more government money so they don't have to work. Those are the real facts that politically correct people want to sweep under the rug.
