I was able to download Steam onto my mint 11 Katya environment (had to tweak permissions to run the DL file as an executable). Set up steam, downloaded ALL my games onto Steam, tried running all of them from the shortcuts, Mint thought about it and quit trying. Pulled up Steam, got as far as the latest updates pop up, then Steam itself closed, not even "crashed," just closed.
Any other suggestions appreciated. Am further along with Steam on Linux than I was, yesterday.
hay um please rply to this comint pcedianet i have been haveing trobel with hackers and shit like that i am thinking about moveing all inportint stuff to a flash drive and put the files on linux mint and i am a gamer and i am worred about gameing in mint will be crappy i know i can do duleboot but i want to get rid of windows and i just want to see more of what linux mint looks and flows like and i am 13 so i cant order te live cd so if you have a video or something showing the makeup for it
Hey bud! Nice video, I am quite stuck tho! I have mint 8 helena installed and have installed Steam, Direct X and all the frameworks to wine doors, but steam won't launch. Is there something I'm missing???
haha your watching starwars good movie lol uhmm i have a question i dont know how to play half life 2 online do you think you can help me i have a windows vista
The title of this video is misleading as all that is shown is the fact that Steam can be installed on a Linux distribution by use of some sort of Windows based layer. Many are familiar with Wine which seems to be one, if not the, most popular. The games and their compatibility/stability on Linux are not demonstrated here, only the front-end gateway (Steam). Nice video, nonetheless.
You can play games with it just fine, the screen capture program decides to stop recording when the screen changes sizes when you start the game. I intend on making a video showing this soon.
hey i have a problem, ive installed steam with wine door and i try to download my games.. when i click to install them steam freezes and closes, ive tried multiple times same results. please help, i love linux but i want to play my games, it wont let me install without closing!

I am trying linux for the first time because of YOUR video. If steam loads and installs Killing Floor I'll never use windows again.
Thanks!

My old PC does that. Right now I'm on my Game one, and I guess its because of RAM issues.
