ZL1s made 376 SAE NET HP ("as installed, with all accessories and factory exhaust system intact. Claims that they actually made "575 HP" are nothing more than urban legend, though a good set of open long tube headers and some sharp tuning could bumo power levels to 450 or so. Still, Chevy specifically advised against running ZL1 cars on the street, since they required racing fuel, would barely idle, fouled plugs and came with no radiator shroud. That's the reality behind this "legend."
