If someone was not a great composer i guess they would only have like 3 albums at best. Dude.. he has a amazing understanding of composing and arrangement.
I agree with you. His amazing technique and rhythmic sensibilities are what make his songs interesting. If he played without the same technique they would be boring.
He's a solid composer but you can hear his influences. You can really hear some Pat Metheny influence from back in the late 80's. At the same time, he does have some really fresh compositional ideas. His picking is amazing, especially on chords. For equally impressive picking check out Steve Morse 'Tumeni Notes' and 'The Bash'
Not bad, he needs to work on cleaning it up a little, maybe a few chro... hell, who am I kidding... I'm just gonna go hang my head and shame and watch in awe from a distance...
Lol he isnt even on the list you jackass. Thats total opinion. Sit Meola down with Bireli Lagrene , Stochelo Rosenberg , or any other guitar player and he is lost...he was so pissed at Bireli lagrene here that he never played with him EVER again. And also stopped playing with Larry Coryel...whom saw Bireli totally pwn himself and Meola in this concert.....and decided to go play with him from now on.
Bireli is a fantstis player yes..to criticize him in any way is kind of foolish and ignorant..HOWEVER, to say that he 'pawns' al is just moronic. They are both AWESOME players..but when Bireli plays fast..there is what you can consider..more ,"struggle' in his efforts..more strain on his face etc..Al plays at the same speed as Bireli..but 'cleaner' and with total effortlessness...he is a little bit MORE in command when flying around the neck than Bireli. Not by a WHOLE lot..but noticable.
That statement alone proves your tone def. Your an idiot and now everyone knows you are, congrats on publically making yourself look like a complete RETARD. Al does not have the same speed as Bireli, he does not play all over the guitar, Als licks are played in only a span of 4 frets most of the time. Watch him, you'll see. He doesnt play anything like Bireli, your a complete retard and I am now DUMBER for replying to you.
Al plays fast only within a span of 4 frets most of the time...???? I have been following Als music for over 25 years and saw him live 3 times in the second and 4th rows..hmm...you are obviously...not only a fool...but also BLIND. Don't talk to me further on here. Idiot.
you say that bireli is better & faster etc. so i watched one of his videos, & all i can say is "wow". but on the subject of which is better i'd say that you can hardly compare them. bireli is pure jazz, al is fusion. also, al has albums out called "orange and blue" & "kiss my axe" which are pure jazz & are just as up and down the frets as bireli... im guessing you came to your biased conclusion because you've only heard songs from al like race w/ devil & medit. sundance, right?
You're absolutely out of ur fvking mind!! Al picks every single fvking note!! Not even Bireli, not even Malsteem can do that!! All they do r Hammer on's and Pull off's ... Al can play any style Absolutely Clean!! U r a fvking blind man ... seriosly, u have a serious problem with that.
haha chill out bro, who gives a damn about speed or perfection if it sounds good its cool/. btw fuck malmsteen :P if you wanna see someone play perfect guitar check out john williams
if you arent an idiot you can see that the audio is way behind the visual. hokins3... you need to start playing that guitar more.. i would think you would know the difference between the sound of bar cords and some amazing melodies.
Quite honestly, it is Al's compositions that make him great, along with four star performances.

the video and audio sometimes seems out of time but there's no doubt it's Al di Meola, one of the greatest guitarists of all time

true... I really enjoyed it when I minimized the window and just listened, I should have mentioned that.
