@mbproject21 When I saw this film I was in shock! some footage from our Loves Rock Gala Awards DVD was in it with our name rubbed out . Some of the concert footage was also in it and interviews. The footage was on the tapes that belonged to Castro Brown and were used without permission, Tapes which he was still waiting on. If Shabazz had worked with Castro Brown or Lloydie Coxsone this could have been the full lovers rock story.
Some footage has been stolen without consent and used in this film. THE STORY OF LOVERS ROCK was and is CASTRO BROWNS idea. Castro paid him over £5.000 to film his show and Shabaz ran off with the footage. It took over a year to track him down to get it back. He's still got all our interview tapes and copied some of our concert tapes. He has not mentioned a lot of artists because he don't know of them simple. He has never put on a show never produced a record and never been in a dance yet KMRT
I grew up in the midlands to lovers rock and loved the blues we used to go to, them times were the best, the yoot dem nowadays don't know what they missed
I just saw this documentary and was very surprised that there was no music by Alton Ellis, Dennis Brown or Gregory Isaacs showing their musical influence and how they influence this movement...very disapointed.
First it was UB40 the so called kings of UK reggae ... now Ava who on the bandwagon ? the struggle continues... whe she know bout house blues and rub down wallpaper...
I felt the same way when I saw this film how u gonna leave out "Offical Foundation" artist like I mentioned before Alton Ellis, Dennis Brown and Gregory Isaacs and a play Ava Leigh....black people we will never learn always a put others(in this case an unknown artist) before our own big big aritsts who set it for the rest of us.....
@1900dmf Thank you!!!! She need to get outta here with that "my mum really loved lovers rock BS"....I read your previous post and I couldnt agree more, especially about Alton Ellis...
Good to see that a movie has been made about this British music genre that made a serious impact on the lives of many reggae partygoers back in the 70s and 80s.
really nice.unfortunately it's like the least of the genre....lots of hardcore reggae fans i know don't really like and patronise it... and i don't know what the future of it will be as i don't see new talents artists coming up and new stuff coming up these days....
Lovers Rock is such a big part of so many of our lives and the story definitely needed to be told. I look forward to seeing this and sharing it with my youngsters so that they can see just what we got up to back in the day...hmmm....maybe not! lol
The film will be released in cinemas across the UK in September. There will be a preview screenings in Birmingham at the Mac venue on 19th June at 2.30pm also in Bradford at the National Media Museum on the 16th July.
At last... Something that i can whole-heartedly connect with,.. Something that was an intrinsic part of my language and everyday vocabulary and transition from boy to manhood!!
I can't wait to see this!!.... Gwaan Mr Shabazz :-)
