Aravintes are albanians who went in greece after the ottoman invasion in albania. When Scanderbeg was killed they migrated in greece and south italy. Many of them where hellenised but never forgot their origine. They have albanian blood. Some of the arvanites were islamised. Well they were both albanians. Who told you that Greeks refer to Arvanitika as the "old language"? That's not true. Arvanitika is surely related to Albanian, since my grandparents, who speak it, can communicate with Albanians (that cme from the southern part of the country). However, I am not sure is Arvanite=Albanian. I'd say it's something in between (we're neighbours after all, so mixed marriages were not uncommon).
As time goes by and Arvanites are not allowed to build schools because of the implicit coercion within the "system"... at the end of the day, it will eventually become "something in between"... and further on, it will become ONLY Greek (as you, an Arvanite descendant, speak today).

There's hardly any Greek that does nt have more or less Arvanite roots too. Aravintes are albanians who went in greece after the ottoman invasion in albania. When Scanderbeg was killed they migrated in greece and south italy. Many of them where hellenised but never forgot their origine. They have albanian blood. Some of the arvanites were islamised. Well they were both albanians. It has not to do with religion it has to do with blood, language, origine. Greeks called all orthodox who lived in greece or people who lived in places where the greek army had been..

Who told you that Greeks refer to Arvanitika as the "old language"? That's not true. Arvanitika is surely related to Albanian, since my grandparents, who speak it, can communicate with Albanians (that cme from the southern part of the country). However, I am not sure is Arvanite=Albanian. I'd say it's something in between (we're neighbours after all, so mixed marriages were not uncommon).
