  • Anybody else breaking into "Heyyyy, Bungalo Bill, What did ya kill, Bungalo Bill?........"

  • I never new guitar could be so brilliant

  • Absolutely the best...period!

  • Why does everyone sound the same these days? So bright.

  • @MrZardoz777 Try going out and actually seeing performances instead of judging someone's sound based on a shitty youtube video.

  • @JapJackson Oh, relax. David Russell's "shitty youtube videos" sound vastly better, because he creates a better sound. I'm not trying to be mean, just lamenting the influence of technically solid but scratchy-sounding players along the lines of Sharon Isbin, Elliot Fisk, etc.

  • @MrZardoz777 Again - go see some performances douchenozzle.

  • @JapJackson Wow, are you always this angry? If you're curious to know whether someone has seen lots of world-class guitarists live, the correct procedure is to ask. Not guess (in this case incorrectly.) Unless you're just enjoy insulting strangers anonymously on the Inter Web, in which case I guess you wouldn't bother. ;D

  • Awesome! But I always thought the piece should breathe a little to really separate the slower lines from the fast ones. However her playing of Sevilla is heaven! XD

  • @poupee58

If Xuefei playing was mechanical, Julian Bream was a transformer! LoL. Your comment showed an extreme stupidity which is beyond my imagination. Sorry ...

  • wow, fantastic !

  • Even if I study it for the rest of my life, everyday, ten hours a day, I won't play Villa Lobos that virtuosism...congratulations

  • niceeeeeeeeee

  • If lovin you is wrong, I don't wanna be right. =D

  • holy crap, i've got to learn that with my fingers??? o.o i'm in trouble lol

  • She is one of my favorite players, but off on this piece. Just way too fast.

  • This is a common criticism that many super-fast Asian instrumentalists receive in their videos: they play like a robot. Why? Lack of facial expressions? Just listen to it without looking at the video and compare it to Pat Metheney's fast guitar solos. That's the real definition of a zero-feeling robot music.

  • @choonghuh I think mostly they're just being super racist because she's Asian.

  • @poupee58 Sadly you know nuts!

  • 0:59 , come again?

  • love the tempo.

  • Very talented!

  • Such control...that is a real virtuoso :)

  • y el alma ? = and the soul ? (Where is it ? It's played too quick !)

She has definitely a perfect technique. Granted. But I still remember the play of Julian Bream with this piece.

  • Obviously has special nails, grown from an extract of ginseng and steeped in oriental herbs known only to the ancients and dried by the light of an autumn moon. Its made my ear tingle.

  • @JohnAndrewHall1

What a description! I wish I could express my appreciation so exquisitely. Thanks

  • Bu uzakdoğulular çok fena yav , gelsin yanıma istanbulu gezdiriyim hayran kalır beste yapar kesin :)

  • @juanvalse

Baska isiniz yok zaten yobazlar. Beynin bilmem nerenin ucunda.

  • @Turbansizkadin

  • Excellent!!!! What else I can say.

  • Comment removed

  • good playing technically very good but maybe too fast!

  • Technically very brilliant, not many people will play it faster,

but musically quite dissatisfying. Much too fast, pure "Virtuosentum" without heart. Not a hint of musical understanding. Should take some lessons with John Williams or Julian Bream.

  • I dont think I have ever been so in love.....

  • she is an excellent guitarist.

  • incredibile. O_________________O

  • One of the best interpretations of this piece I have ever heard.

  • Sei la mia preferita.

  • in my opinion, the beggining is too fast adn doesn't not fit with the slow section

  • when she sticks her tongue out at the end, I get excited!!!

  • Plus, she's hot!! mmmmm yeah!!

  • she would be ridiculous at the bass

  • @GelatinousChunk

She is specially good at controlling the bass of Smallman guitar which is famous for

difficulty in controlling the bass tonality and volume.

John Williams suggested pressing it lightly, esp. when it was the end of the piece.

  • spooky

  • Had a masterclass with her today. Going to see her perform tonight. Amazing.

  • OMG AWESOME!!!!!!

  • have dinner with me please

  • Oh my god! What a good artist!

  • im playing etude number 2 and ive only been learning for 2 years :D

  • she will be dancing in the pit of fire next while playing etude 2

  • actually the middle section is played quite well

  • fire

  • The goal of music is not how fast you can get to the end. This is in your face playing from the ego.

There was NO lyrical grace in this.

I know, I know. Impressive gymnastic ability.

Non musicians will be totally impressed.

  • Agree, it was one of my favorite pieces among 12 etudes, but she ruined it by not understanding the flow and grcefullness of this song neither feel of choro. Julian Bream recorded a beautiful version of this peice.

  • I disagree. To me, it sounds very musical (especially in the slower parts). This piece is meant to be played very fast and she does this perfectly. Not entirely sure what you mean when you talk about the absence of lyrical grace.

  • Listen to William Kapell playing the last movement of Chopin's Sonata in Bm

Hard to explain, but she was heavy handed IMHO.

  • why is this humanly possible?

  • amazing.

  • gifted and very beautiful!

  • Unbelievable !

I love it. Are you sure that 5 stars is the

    maximum ? I should give a few more !

    Harrynys

  • Wow! I'm in love with this woman!

  • god so cold

  • Incredible piece, incredible performer

  • Lovely/10

I've heard it many ways, but this was great.

  • Looks/sounds a bit sped up, but perfectly played anyways.

  • Perfect.

  • Excellent! Her playing is almost unbelievable. And I love that smile at the end.

  • ;-)

  • It is a nice song. I heard it in music studies today. I love it! 5*, of course.

  • Excellent! Very Good!

  • É muita graça! Caso com você menina!

  • ADMIRABLE.

  • She is the best guiter player

  • unreal, all rest strokes in the scale runs

  • and she brings out the melody really well

  • its amazing how wellshe plays it

and i feel bad for saying this but she needs to make it flow more on the scales and runs, it sounds too rigid. but apart from that i thought it was sick!!

  • Bravo!

  • Almost mechanical

  • Look at her face! The end of the video =p uheuheuhuehaueh

  • The pace of this song is extremely difficult. Fast arpeggios and sequences followed by sudden dynamic change, characteristic of the sudden mood changes of a villa lobos etude. But Xuefei gets it bang on, and with so much extra confidence in her playing to allow the beutiful essence of the piece to show itself right to the final dramatic single note ending.

  • parabéns pelo Vila Lobos

    edson - Porto alegre -Brasil

  • i gonna play it in music school lol :(

  • next tome you say something...try not to be a douche

  • Nothing short of spectacular. Tremendous technique.

  • excellent performer!!

  • All the incapable players saying crap about Feel the music.. best performance ever.

  • More than words,You are the great beautiful guitarist.

  • Oi tieng dan tuyet dieu...

  • i love you!!

  • Yeah close your eyes and you will feel..nothing? maybe something but one who knows this peace will never like it this fast...nevertheless her speed and tecnic is godlike ;-)

  • near flawless perfect; awesome job ; and to all you "she does not feel the music" ppl you are completely full of it.... go practice...

  • people tend to think, that fast players don't care for feeling, but it's just a prejudice. If you real close your eyes and TRY to FEEL the music, you feel it. Fast is not automatically charmless.

  • Argentineguitar ,but she is not a great musician.

  • ella toca geniall!!

  • te amoooooooooooooo!!

  • Sorry, but i can't understand and FEEL her playing.

This is too difficult for you.

  • Exquisite, and just a rehearsal !! ☺

  • Impresionante!

  • Fine technique but not much expression and dirty sound...frederic zigante does much better interprestaion of villa lobos' work...music is no all about speed...

  • I am not a fan of Xufei but you are wrong to say she has a "dirty sound". You cannot judge her sound from the poor quality audio in this video. This seems to me to be extremely clean playing and if you listen to the middle section she plays lyrically and shapes the phrases beautifuly when it is appropriate. Don't compare a CD recording with a live video of a warm up prior to a concert.

  • I suggest to you listening the interpretation of Turibio Santos, which play with a similar tempo this étude, I think is the correct one, and if you close you're eyes and listen you can notice that the expression of the piece is also the correct. Well, that's my perspective of Yang's interpretation.

  • That was incredible. I'm so inspired by this! This trills are really something! I'm gonna start learning this piece right now! :-D

  • This is flawless playing.

  • Purrfect!!

  • Puta MErda!

  • marry me girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I've heard versions of this etude that i prefer, but i think she does have a completely different interpretation of this piece than others, and in this case it mightn't be to my taste, but so what! it was good playing. Have you seen her interpretation of etude no 11. I saw it in concert and was blown away!

  • Really, really good!

  • she's great and pretty cute. also i get the feeling she's a little better than all of us...so tone the criticism down

  • amazing

  • jaangunnar thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard

  • This is an etude, so good playing.

  • I agree, it isn't good interpretation. And so what that it's etude? It's an emotional piece.

  • Since this was a rehearsal, I don't think she was playing for performance, but rather just as a quick practice. It wouldn't make sense to play it fully in a rehearsal, you would want to save all the emotion and dynamics for the stage.

  • Excellent!!

  • i play estudio numer 2 in 35 secs

  • i play estudio numer 2 in 35 secs

  • Excellent interpretation! Totally understood the piece! Bravo!

  • wao magnifique félicitation

    congratulation

  • Don't get me wrong i think Xuefei Yang is a very good guitarist and this is a very good performance. Thank you Xuefei

  • vraiment excellent !

  • Every time when I come back to this video, I still can't believe what I am hearing.

    Great stuff!

  • What a brilliant performance!!

  • Excellent!

  • She is a wonderful performer... many people can say is too fast, because can not play as fast as her, but is her way and I guess is great as usual.

  • perfect performance!but what the tongue for????

  • pfff too fast at the begining even she can play it fast this is not the tempo

  • hey mann hehehheh chineses are known for playing like guitar pro (there are some exceptions) she s playing it very good but this study could be more expressive(i don t think you play it faster than that because it will suck if it s faster than that)^^

  • i play it faster and very clearly but i play the middle section with more tempo variation like the original score. You don't beleive me?? lol i play el colibri in 50 seconds as well!

  • hhheehheheh villa lobos estudio 2 in 45 sec

  • its not a race

  • Someone told me "El Colibri" means some kind of a humming bird in English! Humming birds are very small and light. I guess those birds do NOT fly as fast as a F-15 fighter jet! I've seen and heard people playing El Colibri so heavy like a B-52 bomber too! Get it?

  • This is not El Colibri =p Get it?

  • show me a video of it, or shut it...

  • @asxefv

actually. shes going slower than the actual tempo :O

  • She plays it very well - a bit too fast, but well.

  • Wow, I can't think of any other better interpretation of this piece. Great technique and music.

  • Just seen her perform live in San Jose. Amazing. She played this too. The audience were on their feet at the end with standing ovation. Real treat to hear world class musician. Never heard live guitar like this. Truly outstanding performer.

  • what? she's got it all....it's her interpertation....it could be a bit mechanical but she has a great sense of tone and dynamics....she's amazing.

  • yet another "put down" comment from the tedious nuncperludum. only player he likes is Yepes.

  • I agree, nuncperludum always insults great musicians.

  • I agree with you , You are right.

  • Smallman!!!!!

  • Wow ! Amazingly musical rendition. Can't wait to hear her play in US next month.

  • Fast, Clean, with good sense of music - simply great! Didn´t know her before...

  • She is a Chinese guitarest. You should check out more of her videos:)

  • I just did... Is she a student of Chen Zhi?

  • I think she studied in London at one of the big music schools ?? I saw her play in Mexico and I got the impression she is a big name in Europe.

  • before she left China, yes.
