  • i know this song from something... I heard this a long time ago and i dont know why

  • is it really any more random than most songs on the radio now?

  • Slight error in the description at the start. The readers were asked for random lines that ALMOST made sense.

Nice slideshow, though, and awesome song!

  • Apple Core Ostriches...

    i like them!!!

  • genius, simply genius...

    like their album as well

  • Fantastic muffincakes

  • lol i submitted a line for this song!!

    -burt trub

  • which one?

  • what? it made sense to me....

  • Is anyone else reminded of the proles' music from 1984? Creepy!

  • what a song! legends!!! number one for sure!

  • hahah! /scott adams and this song are so funny

  • This is so AWESOME, where can I buy the complete album?

You really gotta laugh about it, it could be a Top 40 Hit.

  • @ FreeFlight107

they dont have a album with that song. but they have an older album which is called "Yeah! Jawohl! Und Überhaupt" from "Rivo Drei". but its german xD

  • Amazingly good, full credit to all involved

  • Awesome!

  • his ostrich is an emu...oh well

  • Wow! Someone send me all the phrases that got left out and I'll write a Whole musical!

  • i presume evreyone heard about this from the Dilbert Newsletter, yeah?

  • Nice Bruce Hornsby soundalike piano solo in the middle of the song.

  • It is startling how good this is! Wish I had the creativity

  • I just love the Monty Python reference in the very beginning

  • LMAO, that's awesome !!!

Ironically (given it's a parody) more meaningful than "My London, London bridge, wanna go down ..." ;)

  • I'd like to see the Crash Test Dummies do a cover of this.

  • I am sure there is a hidden meaning somewhere in all this. Maybe if I play it backwards.

  • Check out Word Disassociation by Lemon Demon

  • this german band sounds very 'all american'.

  • Also got here from the Dilbert Newsletter 68.0 link. Song is better than 95% of the new crap oozing over the airwaves today.

Of course, I dumped terrestrial radio for sat rad some time ago. Been "Totally 70's" ever since.

  • so did i and would agree much better than most of the so called songs these days.

  • Can I get an MP3 of the soundtrack to put on my iPod? This really is as good as a lot of "commercial" music.

  • Is it just me or does the instrumental bridge sound a lot like Bruce Hornsby and the Range?

  • Yep! Long-time Hornsby fan. He has a good following in Europe. There's definite Bruce influence there.

  • hilarious.

  • it scares me how she outerspaced me? hahahaha

  • I view the fact that I actually like this song as a sure sign of the impending doom of western civilization... and that Rivo Drei is a pretty good band.

  • I completely agree.

  • Heheheh, me, too!

  • SPREADING Deja vu all over the land is an epic line

  • should be # 1 on the charts

  • Amazing, it sounds way better than the stuff on the radio lol.

  • Nice. I got here from the Dilbert newsletter, and this made me laugh. :P

  • sounds like bob dylan 2.0

  • Not bad, sounds like a lot of other songs....LOL

  • She Amazed me

The Desk corner did graze me

As I slid off the chair to the floor

I was in convulsions but I wanted more..

Great job guys.. but, oh that is an emu not an Ostrich BTW!! :)

I'd love to see an album of these! It may decimate record companies...

  • That is drop dead funny!

I could swear I heard that exact song on a Crash Test Dummy album!!... er... that is if I actually OWNED one... ummm...

Now I know how that band did it!

  • Words escape me in trying to describe the greatness of the song and the video. DNRC rules!

  • wow. that was interesting. nice job

  • my girl Amazed me, then I started reading dillbert and she left me

  • Dogbert's new ruling class shall take over the world :D:D:D great job jem8472!!!

  • Stunning. Truly stunning.

  • Really good song with some interesting pictures to go along with the music. Great effort...but...I'm amazingly sure that the picture of the 'ostrich' at 3:10 is actually an emu. Any FD Aussie can see that. ;) Does that increase the randomness of the song?

  • nice hook

and thus truly the gospel of DNRC shall subliminally engender a spirit of servitude in the masses of induhviduals.

    I love it!

  • I actually like it, it's catchy. It's really funny to think of how random the words are and pictures really add to it.

  • whoops, sorry tussicat, I was trying to hit the reply button! damn it...

Anyway garbage man: I knew a girl like that once...

and ratbert dancing to it...*covers eyes and commmits suicide* (but in a funny way)

  • I wonder what the Garbage Man would say about this song and video.

I would like to see Ratbert dancing to it.

  • Pure DNRC talent haha! we shall RULE xD

  • DNRC > *

  • ZOHMYGOD! That's AWESOME!

That is a surprisingly good song.

And the escaping escape key is amazing.

  • XD DNRC Representin!

    This song is madness... XD

  • Hooray for the Barenaked Ladies school of songwriting!

  • This is really cool!

  • Those random lyrics actually seem to make sense. Maybe I identify with Wally too much8-)

  • jawesome

  • This sure beats Spitney Beers tripe! Good fun. DNRC Members Unite! No induhviduals allowed. WE WILL SOON RULE THE WORLD!!!!!

  • comment 86

    awesome!

  • Windows Movie Maker makes me want to die...

  • DNRC really does rule. The song has a nice beat, a real melody line and no screaming. What more do you want from a hit song? Obvious meaning is not a requirement, as demonstrated by multigenerational icon Bob Dylan. The runaway "escape" key really does for me on this video.

  • This is beautiful. Though I've suddenly gotten a flash of an actual video type video to set to this. The madness, it comes. 0-

  • Whoo! DNRC represent! This was amazing. The marshmellow kittens totally did it for me.

  • Mine was one of those half-million mailboxes.

I like the closing comment about copyright: He actually does own the copyright in the edit, if not the images or the song...

  • hee hee hee... marshmallow kittens ran away to the moon! 8-)

  • Woot! DNRC!

  • This is brilliant for so many reasons.

  • Let's make history turning this a N°1 hit. Are we up to the challenge?

  • Oh my. Pure genius! Hahaha. You know this was linked to in the DNRC newsletter, right? Prepare yourself for the comment onslaught. ;)

  • Yes I got the e-mail today. It hit about 530,000 inboxes.

So if 1% of people that get the e-mail comment then that is a hell of a lot of comments!

  • A lot better than some of the crap that passes for music these days

  • Great song--absolutely senseless! Sure to be a hit.

  • yup I'd pay money for this...and I agree it does indeed prove Scott's point. I love the frog in her ear line that is classic silly love song lyric.

    ~Neria

  • Absolutely brilliant! Let's make it N:o 1 Hit Of the Year! Induhvidual stupidity amazes me...

  • Dogbert rocks, I wanna sign this lot. Who said seven inch vynl was dead. Also we need to find out who stuffs kittens into mugs and should the water be boiled or recently boiled to best experience the flavour.

  • Okay, that was better than 90% of the drivel out there... Go DNRC!

(Made more sense than a Yes album... that's for sure)

  • With her love she tased me!

  • ALL HAIL SAINT DOGBERT!

We found THE hit-single in 2oo8!

  • Amazing!

  • Hail dogbert.

  • Thats great work... proves Scott's point quite well.

  • she spins round and round with a frog in her ear... =D

  • Isn't that 40,000 mittens?

  • no its not

  • Why not? It's a picture of 4 mittens, and it says 10000x above it.

  • its not that litral.

  • Rivo Drei are really amazing!!!

  • You know what the saddest part is? I absolutely LOVE this song. I'm just gonna give up on life now. :P

  • I gotta say, it was a lot better than something MEANT to be good. But, it lacked a little in cohesiveness.

For a better example of "you can write a song about anything" see They Might Be Giant's "Contrecoup" written in response to a vocabulary challenge.

  • LOVE. IT.

  • With her love she TAZED me? I literally LOL'd.

  • i think its so great that the lyrics are intentionally written to mean nothing at all.....and people still like it! haha

  • Someone should hand this to jack johnson - would sound better with just acoustic guitar and his voice...

  • This is pure genius, hilarity and evil

  • Absolutely hilarious.

  • No type of music is "shitty", everyone has their own preference. Somone worked hard on this. Can you write a better song? Keep an open mind, and think before leaving comments like these.

  • Actually, that's kindof the point. A bunch of people just wrote single lines of lyrics and left them as comments on the blog (the whole premise was that any hit song had to have words that sounded good and maybe could have a deep meaning to someone else). Honestly, the hardest work came from the band that arranged selected lines that people had contributed and set music to them, and next to that, the person that made the music video. It's just an exercise in hilarity.

  • Well yeah. I read the blog too, and get the whole purpose. I'm not talking about the group effort in the lyrics, eekjedi didn't say anything against the lyrics. I'm talking about the music itself, by said band. He dismissed the whole thing simply because it was pop, and again, I just think that's real narrow minded.

  • you missed the point man. read again the beginning of the video

  • i love it! i love it! absolutely love it!

  • The MP3 file and lyrics are available at Scott's blog if anyone is looking for them.

  • yikes, this is actually not bad!

  • The fountain is in Christchurch, New Zealand.]

    :)

  • The fountain is in christchurch, nz :)

  • Oh, the humanaity. :P

  • I really want this song. Your point about collective musical taste is well taken, Mr. Adams.

  • I are amaze.

  • Don't tase me bro!

  • This music video Amaze me! I feel Tased all over. I would pay to have this on my iPhone.

  • totally outerspaced me

  • Devoted reader of Scott Adams blog, I love this!

  • Move over Katie Melua, Jack Johnson, et al. AND the music's better

  • Bravo!

This will be available for purchase on iTunes when? It can't be long now.

  • I smell feature!

  • Hahaha, i love this Video. Scott should be a very happy man now that his theory has been proven.

  • If no other good comes of this experiment I hope it popularizes the verbing of "outerspace."

    This video outerspaced my heart!

  • I find your opinion quite outerspacing.

    ;)

  • ParisD, I think you missed the point. This was more of an experiment than an attempt at a "real" song. Just to show that anybody can come up with what passes as high quality now. I'm guessing that the band that wrote the music has some better stuff to offer when it comes to actually selling albums.

  • Maybe ParisD has never read Scott's blog?

    Haha ..

  • Amazing and fascinating!!!

  • I like what you did with the instrumental bits. That's probably what I'd do too...

  • Skillfully done. All it needs now is an equally nonsensical video clip, with some mysterious looking man tying the threads of some unrelated - yet artistic - settings and costumes together. Bravo!

  • Really liked it. It'll be interesting working out the IP implications given the large number of mostly anonymous contributions.

Liked the "seen the thunder" bit. Much better lyrics than most around now.

  • Cool Video.

Whats scary though is for random lyrics is that the song is actually rather good!

  • I cant believe that its hit 4000 views already. About an hour ago (8:30PM GMT) it was only at 245 views.

  • Scott's blog got something to do with it.. ;)

    Nice video, btw.

  • 4000 Views in a day is pretty good!

  • The cat makes this.

  • sounds good but something is missing to make it a hit.

Anyway, the experiment shows how easy is sometimes to make stuff successful even thouhg it might not have quality.

  • What's missing is a better tune. But I guess this is just the sort of bland pap that passes for pop music...oh well...

  • the funny part is that this is a massive collaboration on the Dilbert Blog

  • Ahhh-the Linux species of YouTube videos begins!

  • The Whatty-what what?

  • Reply to EggbertonMac:

I meant open source and global collaboration, and not owned by Bill Gates (hooray!). A good idea for software and now art (and I'm being fairly loose with the word 'art' here, obviously ;-). But this song turned out pretty dam*ed good--there are a gazillion self-proclaimed 'artist' videos here on YouTube that can't hold a candle to this creation. Baby, I'm a-tazed at the way this turned out!

  • This is genius! Absolutely genius and I must say better than quite a lot of songs I have heard recently.

  • I followed the process of the creation of this song in the blog, and I can't help but enjoy the end result. WHY?

  • Probably because having followed the process it gives you the illusion (or the fact)of co-creating.

Did you throw in any lines?

  • Nope, I'm just a lurker. ^_^

  • The accent is reminiscent of Klaus Meine. Not surprising as they're a German band. Hey, if the Scorps would cover this, then you'd have something.

  • Nice video.

  • the frog in the ear, great!

  • visit the dilbert blog to read about the creation of this song.

  • Ok, maybe I'm a goober, but I actually liked the video, including the pictures. I thought they were kind of unique. Where else are you going to find a one-eared cat. Plus it amusing. The song is good too, even if it is total nonsense.

  • Great song, anyway i can't find meabibg to the lyric :-D

  • I think this is a great example of what Larry Lessig calls Read/Write Culture in his talk at TED.

  • hmmm, so turd CAN be polished.

  • If you rub hard enough :)

  • Anyone can put pictures to music. The song is good though.

  • That's the point. The song is good, and the lyrics are jibberish.
