It depends on the perspective of best. But if the perspective includes versatility, then...IMHO if he may be considered the best, that consideration suits him perfectly. The guy his AWESOME.

He was a well known guitarist before he started working with Deep Purple. Primarily for his work with Dixie Dregs, but also his solowork - The Steve Morse Band. So i suggest you go back to watching your Kevin Cornell videos.

ladyleopard- There certainly are a lot of GREAT guitarists out there....but what sets Steve apart is A) his adeptness, and B) his versatility. Yes...he's THAT damn good to be considered "best in the world".  There just isn't anyone else that can do ALL the things he can do...from country fried chickn pickn to old school heavy metal...he's truly at the top of his professional. A world class player of multiple genres and very kind person.
