Mainstream Soul is generally better than Mainstream Hip-Hop and Rap. Not because Soul is better, but because the music industry revolves around marketability instead of talent nowadays. Its sad really. It ends up being that less people are exposed to good Hip-hop because they don't know where to ind it. Certainly not on the Radio. One thing is true though. They didn't need autotune back then.
I'd like to hear some rappers try to sing these old goldies just exactly like Sam and Dave, Wilson Pickett, etc., I wonder what they would sound like if they tried to do just like this. Not the talk with a rythym crap. This is real talent in my opinion! Denise 9482
@Denise9482 thats a cheap shot Denise 9482! I bet Sam and Dave (RIP Dave) enjoy Rap/Hip-Hop. You can't condemn ALL rap and hip-hop, some is good, some is bad, some is GREAT.
Stax/Volt, Atalntic, and Hi records really put Southern Soul music on the map! The Memphis/Muscle Shoals sound really owned the late 60's through to the late 70's. I LOVE,LOVE, and LOVE that raw, funky, heavy drum and bass driven with the mean horn section sound!!! If you ever visit Memphis, please make it your goal to get to Stax studios. It is the stanky - stank!!!
