Hopefully, most, if not all police departments should already have a policy on this... Recently, my father had a heart attack and I drove him to the hospital. This occured at night when traffic was practically non-exsistant. Red lights were run and posted speed limits ignored. But my worst fear was to take another life while trying to save my father's. Here was my BOTTOM LINE: with all due respect to law enforcement, nothing would delay my journey. The explaining would come later... PERIOD.

The driver should have had current tags and this would not have happened. Did the Deputy use poor judgment? Maybe. I don't think he deserved any suspension, just a counseling. Did he receive any training in the academy on what to do in this situation? Is it addressed in his SOPs? If not, hard to fault him for winging it. It's often dangerous when family members transport injured people in their cars. Do you think the lady was doing OK breathing if she was slumped over in a truck? I don't.

I told my wife what was happening and she got dressed in record time and drove me to the hospital while cautiously running all the red lights and hauling ass down the freeway at 85 mph. The doctor said I just made it in time because I could have had heart muscle damage from lack of blood to the affected area of my heart. My wife saved my life that night. My mom was in medical trouble once. I raced to her home and along the way, I blew through a red light doing about 20 over right in front of a cop. Cop pulled out and lit me up, but I didn't pull over. Instead I got to my mom's neighborhood, got out, told him what was going on and he said let's go take care of your mom. I never got a ticket.
