  • Boy, I haven't seen any of these commercials since they originally aired in 1974, when I was five that year( I turned 6 on December 30, 1974) =D

  • We had a Polaroid SX70 camera....I still have photos taken with that camera. Sir Laurence Olivier was the voice.

  • Bosley liked Wishbone way before he met Jill, Sabrina and Kelly.

  • Was John Chancellor's grim tone the result of rumors of President Nixon's resignation? What's the date of this newscast?

  • 1:37 WTF ??

  • @MrBeautifulba1 Bosley's loaded.

  • @musicom67 I hope to god the aliens don't ever see that footage.

  • The Johnson Wax paste looks yummy

  • this was great.

  • 3:34 - I MISS BREAKFAST SQUARES!!!

  • WAIT A SECOND!!! Was that...could that have been...the actress who portrayed "Mrs. Costanza" from Seinfeld in that Alka Seltzer Ad!!!! That VOICE! I think it's HER!!!!

  • I THOUGHT that was Eddie Barth. He passed away recently. Most would know him from SIMON AND SIMON,I guess.Baffled looking John Chancellor caught offguard is a damn good bonus

  • It's from August 8, 1974 isn't it?

  • Eddie Barth is the announcer in the Alka-Seltzer ad; Dave Ketchum is "Fred". David Doyle (later of "CHARLIE'S ANGELS") is indeed the barbeque chef/host, while Herschel Bernardi is the announcer for WIsh-Bone.

  • That does strike an awful resemblance to the logo and music signature of rival ABC News from 1978-2000

The word ---BC had a white color, and the word NEWS had a blue color.

The four-note music signature sounded the same as the ABC News signature we hear to this day

  • Yes sir... I completely recognized that similarity back when ABC introduced it...

  • -- The Alka-Seltzer ad creatives were often brilliant, but had little continuity here: "Fred" is dressed sorta Mexican, but did the Merengue, which hails from the Dom. Rep. And "enchiladas with chili sauce?" A bilingual redundancy!

-- "Look up, America/See what we've got/Let in the sunny side of living!" Coca-Cola tries to buck up a country amid the Nixon disgrace.

I think that's Larry Olivier, Dick Cavett's close personal friend, doing voice-over for Polaroid.

    Fantastic post. Thanks!
