I think the demonstrates accurately what the original sounds like compared to these other videos, and it sounds nice and clean. if you want to send me your strat that would be cool too =)
Very Nice! Question: Can you demonstrate some of the classic Hammond B3 Rock organ sounds that are in the GR-20's sound banks? Thanks.....both in chord form and individual lead notes....
I will try and see what I can do for you. I don't know which patches are Hammond, as GR lists them like "Rock Organ" "Purple Organ" and "Jazz Organ". Any particular sort of songs you want me to listen to/copy? I don't know much rock organ stuff you see.
I wish you guys would stop playing the intro over the guitar. It overpowers the guitar and makes it impossible to tell if you're doing a good job or not.
@nickwellings He means don't play the actual music when you're playing the guitar. We want to know if you're actually good, or just messing around and hoping to God we don't notice. (Incidentally, I would like to hear nothing but the guitar in a video that I watch for someone's talent.)
I'm assuming you figured this out by ear, but do you by chance have tabs for this? Really I can figure out almost all of it by ear, except I'm having trouble with the tapping part at 0:36 'cause I'm kinda nooby =P
dude. so awesome. i've been wondering more and more about guitar synths and wanting one more and more and i think this pushed me over the egde. but do you like it and stuff and do you use it a lot?
Oh yes, I like it a lot. The fact that I cannot play keyboards but can trigger of vast soundscapes, is something I enjoy.
I don't use it too much in a band, though it is great for Van Halen covers like Jump and Why Can't This Be Love, as you can get very close to the sounds on record.
I think as a creative tool it is amazing, and very handy if you think "man I fell like playing piano/funk bass/flute/orchestra today!"
I like it a lot. The GR33 is a superior pedal though, very edit-able.
I only started tapping about two years ago and I'd love to learn this. Back in the 80s when my brother and I watched this we'd go down on our knees and play some serious air guitar to the tapped part. Anyway, enough nostalgia :)
Thanks!! It took me a while to work out what the guitar was doing! It was much easier to hear in this outro bit, so that is why I did it. Thanks for your kind comment.
His guitar's turned up. He's just playing the piano, horns, and guitar WITH the guitar. Great stuff, I've been mulling over buying a Roland synth system for my Strat and just did after watching this.
Hey, way cool! That's nice that you made the purchase after watching...! The Joop Wolter's video on Youtube of him playing his Gr-20 persuaded me to get one. Have you seen that one?
Since this video was made I have made further mods to the guitar, including to the synth system. I might try and upload something new with it.
No problem! I have tried to do Instruments of Destruction and the Transformers Theme by Lion. The guitar solo on Instruments of Destruction is really hard though!! :¬0 I will keep trying it. Thanks for watching this video and the others!
Thanks! Yes, I initially tried the intro, but there was one part I could not hear or work out too well, the bit with guitar tapping (approx 00:38 video time here). So I did the outro, as it is easier to hear. They are very similar.

Great stuff man.
Is that bridge pickup part of the Roland MIDI kit, or is it like a Hot Rail or something?
helikestv 2 years ago
@helikestv Hi! The bridge pickup was a Red Lance Sensor. I have since removed it for a normal Strat pickup.
