Klitchco,Maskaev,Valuev,,Ibragamov.Povetkin..,You Stevenson would have beat these guys.Well he beat one of them;Ibragamov in the amteurs.Great Amateurs make great pros'.Cuba had great pro fighters before castro made it illegal to fight pro such as Kid Chocolate,Jose "matequilla" Napoles,Ultimo "sugar" Ramos and Kid Gavilan don't think,who made the "bolo" punch famous.He would have made a great heavyweight champ.All he did was beat great Russian and American amateurs for 5 GOLD MEDALS
Stevenson was a great amateur , but the Pros are not over 3 rounds.Another Cuban Boxer Jorge Gonzales hammered Lennox Lewis and Riddick Bowe in the Amateurs, but Bowe slaughtered him as a professional.It is a different league.Sure Stevenson could hit, but not as heavy as George Foreman.Great Amateur, the Cubans always are did well to stay their.
@8742leeds i agree did stevenson have a good chin? could he go 12 or 15rds? did he have heart? no of those questions can be answered in the amateurs. in the amateurs he was basically a man fighting boys or fighting guys not good enough to be good pros. jimmy clark a good american amateur gave stevenson some tough fights but did virtually nothing as a pro. so i dont see him beating most of the top pros of his era.
It looks like the hit that put out Sony Liston. They look like nothing but they are atomic bombs. Can you imagine a hit like that without glove? Stevenson was great there and in the other world no one like Ali.
Ali is some 10 years older than Stevenson. He had nothing to prove to anyone. Stevenson was a great amateur, but he had the years' experience of most pros. Most amateurs with little or no experience tend to keep coming, needing to get shots in as soon as possible. I believe several American boxers would have beaten Stevenson: Ali, Foreman, Holmes to name a few. I think Lennox Lewis would have as well.
@lokotecuban2007 Aside from Gamboa his isnt even a champ yet every other cuban that defected has failed as a pro, Casomayor was their best and he lost a bunch of times
@Gyro911 What other cuban Champ defeted from cuban and failed? You dont know what are you talking about. Only Yan Barthelemy Felied, the other are on their way to become Champs
remember, these fights were only three rounds!! imagine if stevenson had to go 6 , 8, 10 rounds? with professional fighters? I don't know...3 rounds? i'm not sure about his stamina over the long haul of a pro career
stevenson couldve beaten any pro heavyweight of that era he was bigger than all o f them and had great boxing skills the only one that couldve given him trouble was ali because of his boxing ability but stevenson was bigger and could box just as good... it wouldve been a great fight
Page? Green? wtf are you talking about none of those guys wouldve beaten him.. foreman i'll give you cause he was a puncher and he had a punchers chance but that's it
If you remember Jimmy Clark gave him hell all three fights they had.And Angel Milian reportedly gave him fits.The way Page was progressing after 1977 convinces me he could have taken Stevenson.Only way Teo could take Greg was if he mauled and brawled him, and that not possible.Remember Igor Vysotsky twice beat his guy, and Page beat him.
I wonder how tall Stevenson was?He was listed at six feet four.Tate also was listed at six feet four.However Stevenson towers over Tate and Bobick.Bobick was listed at six feet three.

He's a great fighter, but lets admit his faults,and Vysotsky is a legit knock against him.

@puertorricane
Actually he was younger, more trained and had more punch the Ali.
Ali never wanted a fight.
That says it all.

The same thing happened to Tate later, and, Tate walked about the ring, then fell down. I think it was the second fight with Teo.
