That's actually not correct. Wrist locks are legal in MMA and in the UFC but are not used that often due to the heavy amount of tape on the hands and wrists.
Sorry to correct you once again but small joint manipulation is only referring to fingers and toes. This does not apply to wrists. Go take a look at the UFC rules and regulations before you make false claims.
Well nothing stops him from punching per se, but in a broken down posture like that, his punches will have little power and the wrist lock will end the fight before he has an opportunity to strike enough times to do damage.
The only issue is trapping the arm like that, a trained fighter will make it very difficult, which is why wrist locks are rare in MMA.
lol....this is the problem with alot of bjj guys. they only know triangle's, kimuras, arm bars etc.....they don't have much knowledge of the entire jiu jitsu system...which uses ALOT of wrist locks. but just so you know, if you've ever been put in a proper wrist lock you would know what stops you from raining punched down onhis face. you can control a mans entire body with his wrist...and it's extremely painful. it's the intense pain that stopd him from doing anything but being in pain.
I hate wrist locks simply because of the fact that it FUCKING HUTRS!!!

@kirokyukan,
I should also add that if he's punching with the free arm, his base is compromised and he's going to get swept.

I can see how you would trap his arm, but how do you capture his wrist?
thanks for the video.

I guess it's OK for sport, but what stops the guy from raining down punches on your face?
