You're a fantastic player. My playing is mainly focused around Metal. But I really enjoy the Jazz background. It seems very fun to play, but so difficult!
NO WAY, YOU HAVEN'T HEARD OF CAT CLEMONS!? Come redeem your shame by checking out my videos and commenting and subscribing! It'll be awesome. Trust me.
that was sick! do i detect some classical guitar influence in that first chordal run in the A sections? also kudos to you for being a thin guy like me and being able to handle the weight of a les paul! haha. I just can't do it.
@s1914 Thanks! For this video I used an old peavey bandit 112. For my solo jazz gigs I usually use a Cube Roland 60 which is very easy to carry around and has a decent tone.
Great ideas and improvising Walter! Also, great single-note chops. Nice sound, even on the Gibson solid-body. Please keep up the postings. Thanks, Walter.
You explore the harmonic structure of the piece wonderfully, which accentuates Jobim's compositional genius. He was a monster of harmonic progression. Well done!
Cool man. Sweet, modern voicings and the single note lines were insane too. I was hoping to hear some more of them. Great tone too-shows that you don't need a hollowbody to get a good sound for jazz (Martino is proof of that anyway, but ;))
@sevensharpeleven Great ideas and improvising Walter! Great single-note chops as well. Sound is great, even with the Gibson solid-body. Keep up the postings. Thanks Walter.
It was pretty startling the first time I heard it - this nice relaxed improv, then all of a sudden, you break into a sprint!
Are your nails kept long? I ask because I'm retraining myself to play in a similar fashion, after decades of using a pick, but I'm trying to relearn how to blaze without one - seems you've got that figured out!
Thanks for the comment. I keep my nails long (not too long though) so I can transition from chord melody to fast single lines without having to grab a pick and also keeping the same kind of tone, for that I use my index finger nail as a pick.
in this particular video I used the bridge pickup, tone control half way .10' strings, going to an old solid state peavy amp. with flat EQ and a little spring reverb. The tone, however, can change tremendously depending on how you play. You can achieve different tones with the same set up. Thanks for writing!
Thanks for the comment! I am actually using my index finger nail as a "pick" on the fast double time section. I find it very handy, and it also helps keeping the same tone.
Sensational playing mate, from a fellow jazz guitarist. Congrats, the fluency in your fingers is strong, as is your knowledge of altered chords and scales. Love the double time improv too.
Greyflatlander, perhaps before you go telling people what to do in such an emphatic way, check your facts. This song 'Wave' was most DEFINITELY written by AC Jobim.

What setup are you using to get that sound? Eq settings, etc? It's an awesome jazz sound, esp. from a solid body.

Wonderful! Are you using a thumbpick for the fast sections, or is it fingers, a la Wes Montgomery? Hard to see....
