@ReReShow80 I've made this video last year : vimeo(dot)com(slash)18964314 . And I'm now working on more music videos. Let me know when you'll have harnessed Unity :)
I don't think i ever mentioned that what you did helped inspire me to teach myself Unity. Did i ever mention that. these 3D scenes that you do have a real way of inspiring people like me.
This is fantastic! You get what someone like Zemeckis fails to understand, with all his millions: animation is a medium that flourishes the more stylization you inject into it. Love the sound design too.
If you did this with Blender it would be a big help to me because I am trying to convince them that you can use open source software for what's considered real animation out here.
@ReReShow80 Some fencing manuals for proper postures, foil grip and basic movements, then I watched every swordfighting/swashbuckling movie I could get my hands on, from Errol Flynn to Matrix Reloaded... That was to get a better timing/choreography on screen, without it being too fast (in comparison to real foil matches, that are usually over in a couple of seconds).
Keyframe animation means it's hand-animated (instead of having guys in wetsuits and pingpong balls being captured by cameras.).
This is totally brilliant, I'll be watching it again and again. How is it done, I mean what kind of animation is it? It looks computer generated but the movement of the fencers is so natural. It must've taken forever.
@ricuk64 it's classic key-frame animation. I watched a LOT of references before animating, and then animated the whole thing in a month and a half (not so good for your health) :). Olivier provided killer-rigging!
from 1 to 10 i give it a 1000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.
Very entertaining. I used to fence foil, and this piece of craftswork has caught the whole idea and athmosphere in the sport, we can fight "to death" to find a winner, but in the end the real winner is the one who can still shake hands with his opponent and mean it.
Nice! I once had the ambition to do something like this but then I realized that I didn't have the know-how to do it... Still don't... for now my idea lies to rest....
While I personally think that sabre would have made it possible to really justify the dramatic sidewards slashes and also they seem to be lacking the electric jackets for the foils they are using, but regardless this is still a brilliantly done piece of animation.
Well, I've been reading all the positive comments for quite some time - since the movie was submitted, I believe - and I never took any time to thank you all guys for your support!
As a member of the team of three crazy guys that made the movie back in the days, I have to say it was one difficult but highly exciting experience, especially considering we had such a short amount of time to actually do the work.
In the end, even if we had a lot of issues and met more obstacles than we had bargained for, I was proud to release "En Garde". And I'm even prouder when I read your comments.
Maybe some things could have been done better, maybe the movie could have been greater.
I, for one, see that people are entertained and enjoyed the movie, so I feel like, you know, "mission accomplished!"
Eccezionale! This is a great animation which can only have been produced by a fencer (probably a foillist) What is amazing is how it captures visually what fencers go through during their assualts, the battles of wits, fencing on a psycological tightrope, the feeling that one wrong move and you have lost. I really liked the handshake at the end-obligatory in all fencing bouts.
Enfin il faut un peu de respcte pour ton adversaire (sorry my french is rather poor)
Hey, dumb head, English is not the only language in the world. The video was published on the fr domain, where "fr" stands for France, you know, on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean... Yep, France is a country, you know, in Europe and guess what? They speak French and they don't have to speak English just to make a dumb head like you happy.
Very nice work...the animation at it's begining gives a very good impression of the sport (fencing), very fairplay. Then with the 3D stuff...it's very original, and i really appreciate that a lot. Congratulations, and very very outstanding work!
Outstanding work. I love it!
