  • AND HOW THE FUCK DOES HE PLAY IT AND SING?

  • TAKE IT UP THE ARSE FOR SATAN YOU SATANIC JEW CHRISTIAN NIGGER SLUTS

  • dude if you are high on drugs you make that solo longer wtf this is lame compared to the LA gig, no balls / high compared to sober/ presicely depthning

  • that was a bad ass solo

  • great drum mix...that kick drum sounds like a 24'

  • steve jordan on drums...holla!

  • SRV- Singing: 7/10, Guitar playing 11/10, Soul 20/10

Jimi Hendrix- Singing: 2/10, Guitar playing, 10/10, Soul 10/10

John Mayer Singing: 9/10, Guitar playing 9.9/10, Soul 10/10.

    All great musicians!

  • @Cbluesrocker John Mayer's voice is the douchiest. Sorry. Give me Hendrix's anytime.

  • Damn! this is sick! Jimi would've been proud!

  • KILLER SOLO

  • I saw a couple other videos and it's impressive how he plays differently and improvises the solo in each separate concert, though I love the one they did in L.A this one is sick!!!

  • Sweet Drum Kit!

  • a sweet base :)

  • Why does one have to be better than the other, they are both excellent in their own right?

  • My gosh JCM! You have the most incredible voice!

  • Jimi is the best not because he was technically proficient but because his style and technique paved the way for a new soulful guitar-style. Jimi's style was raw and unrefined and no one had ever played guitar like that or even attempted gto before him. That's why he's the best and although John knows he has some serious chops, maybe better than Jimi, he would agree with me there as would SRV.

  • anyone here Steve Jordan stop drumming early like 2 measures early at around 2:05, then realizes and comes back in? he's an amazing drummer such a sick groove

  • @joshscus He didn't stop early, the song is supposed to be like that.

  • @joshscus no I think he hit his "hi-hats" which are really just two crash cymbals on top of each other. He does this a lot to create contrast. You expect to hear the snare but don't and when he jumps back in its almost refreshing.

  • @bluelibra65 he didn't say so, the video doesn't say so, everyone has the right to cover anything.

if you don't like that, then stop clicking john mayer videos.

  • @bluelibra65 you are an idiot, i would like to see you play like that, oh wait you cant because you spend all your time on the computer hating on John Mayer videos because your jealous of how good he is. and SRV and Hendrix would be love John Mayer if they were still here.

  • i bet half of the adolescent girls in the audience don't even know that this is a cover. no disrespect to john meant, because i rather like his cover.

  • steve jordan is rediculously amazing

  • i can't see soloquierosignearme's problem..

  • 2:30 What? Mic 3??? WTF

  • I love the herb...

  • Mayer is fantastic. The guy single handed saved an entire genre of music and reminds us all of the great blues and rock guitarists.

  • look at pino at 2:10-2:12 he's breakin it down! haha

  • john mayer is a fantastic musician, but what makes this performance so amazing is the rhythm section.

    pino and steve simply rock...

  • john mayer you rock :D

  • I absolutely love this tune. I'm a drummer, and Steve Jordan's groove on this is TOUGH!!!!! But, it is a blast to play!!!!!

  • get some great headphones and listen to pino during the beginning of the solo! absolutely crazy!

  • Great song, great performance.

John seems to have problems singing this one live. This performance, beginning the 3rd verse @~1:50, he repeats "Oh Dolly Mae, how can you hang me up this way?" instead of "Oh Dolly Mae, you must be insane!" or something similar. He plays it off well, though, ad-libbing "so unsure of yourself hanging from your unsure window pane"

Also, listen at around 3:14, as he finishes the solo, he hits the pedal a little too soon.

  • haha, first time I see a video where he's wrong with the lyrics ..

  • He sings it the same way on WTLI... So the line about the "unsure window pane" isn't ad-libbed...

  • INCREDIBLE!

Love this song on Where The Light Is DVD

  • yo fucking nice sound levels

  • Jimi was very innovative and he did things AT THE TIME that seemed unthinkable. But you have to realize as time goes on musicians get better and innovate more. After Jimi there was SRV and after SRV there was Mayer and they all get better as time goes on.

  • I Agree with you my friend..;)

  • i totally disagree, are you trying to say that mayer is better than jimi and SRV? that is just wrong..guitar players such as jimi, SRV, Eddie Van Halen, mayer and many more are at the point talent-wise that you can't really compare them, you may have a favorite but it is unfair to compare them because they all have their own style that no one plays as well as them because it is their own..they are all unique

  • true, but srv is a better player then mayer. Mayer is really good though.

  • to start, im a huge fan of both musicians, but let me say that mayer can technically do things that stevie couldnt, so in this sense, mayer is a better guitar player from a technical standpoint.

but lets not forget that mayer might not even be here if it wasnt for srv, so things even out

  • It seems like there has been this torch passed from Hendrix on to every next generation. And only one person has the balls to fill those shoes. Everytime that torch is passed it burns a little bit brighter.

  • @SanjayPer I know what you mean the jimi version I wasn't able to hear the words and quicker guitar play made it for me sound like a bit messy John has made the song easyer to hear the lirics a

  • @SanjayPer I like SRV but would never ever class him and Mayer as being innovators. It's all a matter of taste but to me Jimi was the greatest guitar innovator the world has ever known. I was only 22 years old when he died and he's been the biggest influence on my playing and on innumerable other guitarists.

  • @lewars1912 Totally agree with you. Mayer and SRV have come up with some good shit! But, without JH who knows where the guitar would have gone. Jimi was an innovator and SRV and especially JM are just trying to tune a few things up and make stuff their own

  • @SanjayPer And John Mayer copied SRV

  • @SanjayPer I'm sorry but that is complete bs.I respect mayer and i really like srv but jimi was in a completely different league. jimi could play in so many different styles. mayer and srv both built their styles on hendrix.do you play guitar? reading your comment the answer must be: close to never

mayer and srv make less mistakes but that is only because they stick to their licks which they learned by heart. jimi would freestyle 24/7

there will sadly never be a second hendrix.by far the best!!

  • @SanjayPer i totally agree with you

  • @SanjayPer You probably think Mayer is better than Bach.... TIME has nothing to do with creativity and innovation. How did Mayer and SRV get more innovative or "better" than Hendrix? There are more intelligent ways to give credit to Mayer if that's what you want to do.

  • @HeynLinger Time has nothing to do with creativity and innovation? If that were the case, then the cave man would've had a computer. OF COURSE things get better over time. Wow, talk about ignorance is bliss.

  • @timijai22 Sometimes things get worse over time...In all times there were creative and innovative people. People now are not more creative then people 45 or 4500 years ago. Or maybe you think you're more creative than Michelangelo or Hendrix were because you have a computer?

  • @SanjayPer

    Ha ha!

Well it would be really funny, if you weren't a depressing idiot.

  • You're probably talkin about that Rolling Stone article from a few years back. They named Jimi #1 because he's the most influential of all time. Not the most talented. If you listen to John's earlier live stuff, his voice was really pitchy to btw.

  • Mayer is a great musician and I'm a fan of him. But he can't compare with Hendrix. Jimi was a great musician and songwriter and he did so many revolutionary things throughout his very brief career. He wrote his own songs & didn't just want to play other people's music all the time and stay in the background as just a guitarist. He was very innovative in many ways. He COULD sing and play blistering, beautiful & innovative guitar lines at the same time. So why is it that you don't like him?

  • Are you trying to imply my personal opinion is wrong?

In MY OPINION, I think Hendrix can't sing, it's clear he just can't!

I just don't think he's the best. If you listen to john's records and then jimi's, can you honestly say that they are at the same singing level? I can't.

This is what I think, so don't go and try to imply I can't think what I want to.

  • Nah I'm not trying to do that. I respect your opinion because at one point I thought Hendrix couldn't sing, after listening to one of his songs on a live album long ago. I just think that Hendrix CAN sing. He's definitely not a great singer, but he was a capable singer. On some live songs or shows, he would be unfocused but not on all of them. Also, Mayer is a great guitarist but Jimi was more talented and did much more. As an artist, if u like Mayer better, than its your opinion, I don't mind.

  • Oy.

As soon as i saw your comment i thought, "Poor guy's gunna get an earfull now,".

    LOL

  • Go and listen to Jimi and the Band of Gypsys Live at the Fillmore East album. Jimi plays some pretty intense lead and rhythm guitar parts while he sings on that album. Arguably his best live album ever. That record alone proves to me why he's considered the greatest of all time.

  • I'm totally with you.

  • @palmster56 (:o( You shouldn't be confused (:o(

  • redhanded618, you are SO right. In my opinion, from viewing John's progression is less than a decade, I easily see John being the greatest of all time by the end of his career. But Hendrix was the greatest and most likely will be the greatest live musician of all time. John is so fantastic live, though. Seeing him 10+ times and each time he's been better than the last show I saw.

  • to me it just looks like hes using a right-handed strat with a left-handed maple neck on it.

  • its a voodoo strat, fender dont make em anymore, you can pick em up used for about £1000.00, the reverse head stock gives them

different tone from the standard strats because the strings are in a different position behind the nut.

  • Explain how exactly that would give a different tone, considering one is fretting the vast majority of ones' playtime.

  • Mmmm, I guess it would only effect open strings. Remember Jimi used a lot of open string pedal tones a's and e's. not sure John mayer uses the same voicings as Jimi though.

The reverse headstock strats i use sure seem to have a more loose or open kinda feel to em.

    Good point though dude.

  • Is he playing a left-handed guitar upside down??

  • its a reverse headstock strat.

  • John Mayer tore that shit up. I think he played it better than Hendrix would've done live :X

  • NOBODY outmatches Jimi Hendrix live...Not even this guy...

  • John Mayer just might be a HUGE blues/soul legend when he's baout 50 years of age also. Lets be honest. John Mayer is VERY good.

  • Anthony Hamilton on drums ladies and...ladies.

  • nah it's steve jordan

  • WONtothaG....yeah....i was being sarcastic.

  • even though this is a cover its still pretty fuckin sweet.

  • anyone know how to play the end of the solo where he kinda fans the strings n works his way down the neck?

  • it's really simple once you learn how to. it's just making sure that your wrist is 100% free of tightening. then again, i'm pretty sure no one on a YouTube message board can play like John. haha.

  • does anybody know the size of the kick drum that steve plays?

  • 16x20 or something

  • Classic homage to Jimmy, all while including a left handed cream ivory strat.

  • hey man, don't you mean: Jimi

  • Totally right. =)

  • i like the reversed headstock

  • a prefer his tone with rosewood.. great cover!!

  • i love john mayer. he is absolutely amazing at guitar

  • you should check out amos lee then... amazing blues player

  • I love the solo in this song, on the try album as well.

Good perfomance, so hard to sing and play at same time, yet alone sing as well as him.

    :)

  • Gotta love Pino Palladino's headbob

  • @MelleB90 he looks like a turkey, don't you think?

  • the funny thing is, i bet all of those girls in the audience have no idea who hendrix is.

  • They probably all thought he wrote the song to haha...he did a good job tho

  • Can anyone post the version they played on Conan?

  • Jimi Hendrixxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • awesome.

    Love that guitartone. Soooo sweet!!!

    Rasmus Volden

    R.A.V.
