You know you're a theater kid when you're sitting in musical rehearsal with your opposite playing and replaying this video laughing hysterically until you cry :P
@LadyEaglestar18 That Hungarian bloke is priceless when he sang 24601. I just laughed and laughed. However I have heard him sing it without any mistakes and I have to say he is good.
i have been in les mis and twice in one our val jean lost his pants while carrying marius in the sewers and the other production our fauchelevent lost his while being pulled from under the cart
If you wanna see the hungarian Valjean live, search for "Les Miserables (Nyomorultak) - Rock Színház - 1987 - Szeged - Hungary part 3. " on youtube. The same happens from 9:30 :D :D :D but with picture too!
This has got to be one of the best musical bloopers video on youtube. Especially that Hungarian Valjean, that is just amazing. So full of win and awesome. It also seems that the Enjolras's have trouble hitting their high notes.
@iAsian92: Y'know, I listened to it again, and it's actually Lewis who messes up first. Instead of singing, "Now the wheel has turned around. / Jean Valjean is nothing now," he sings, "Now the wheel has turned around. / Ev'ry man must choose his way." I think Gemignani got confused and started on the wrong stanza, and Lewis seems to have realized his own mistake at about the same time and gotten confused too. What a mess--poor guys. :)
@HenriJonathan All the recent productions have directed Valjean to get very angry with Javert in this scene, so as far as I know he was just getting a little too far into character. But there might've been hidden shenanigans or backstage drama behind it, who knows.
The "pretty boys who went to our heads" and "take us from behind" are both intentional. As someone pointed out, the London cast always goofs off the matinee before a cast change. There's this lovely recording of the cast change matinee a couple years ago where the ensemble all gasp theatrically after the "He maintained you made a present of this silver." "That is right." *GASP* Hysterical! These are intentional as well.
Once when I saw it, Thenardier took off Marius' ring on the line "even found me this fine souvenir" and it flew off his finger and into the orchestra pit. The look on his face was priceless.
the enjolras on 1.00 was very sick that day! it was a special show, just for this day, he played the afternoon and in the evening drew sarich played enjolras with the notes in his hands^^
Aiiiii~~ This is ... thank you so much this is so utterly fabulous!! Nearly passed out from laughing on the "pretty boys" one alone! (...now, was that reeeally a mistake, or was someone going for their fangirl demographic I wonder..?)
I am highly, highly confused at Peter Corry as Javert.... Maybe the lyrics are different at the West End than they are on Broadway, but I mean what did he just like, improvise and make stuff up? I mean, that's not how I remember the lyrics going! hahah
@Crazface222 Haha I know how the lyrics are supposed to go, I just couldn't figure out why he was singing them wrong! He probably did get confused like you said haha
@njishottlikeatamale Actually, it may have been intentionl, like "pretty boys". Apparantly the London cats like to ham it up and screw around on last shows, although I don't know if that show was a last show. Could've just been a screw-up XD
@MadameChristie So the whole "pretty boys" thing was intentional? But it sounded like after that they put an emphasis on "girls",or maybe that's just me.... I suppose it might have been a joke, it's kinda hard to forget those lyrics, they're rather simple and slow.... Haha
@njishottlikeatamale Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was a last show thing, where the cast just screwed around with lyrics for the hell of it. The line was supposed to be "Here's to pretty girls" to rhyme with "witty girls" right after. I think it may have been meant be as a joke about all the slash that seems to follow the students around, from the novel, through to the musical, and especially in fanfiction. As I said, I'm not sure about Javert's screw-up. Could've just been him messing up *shrug*
OMG... 3.30 onwards has me in tears laughing! This is going to help me sleep tonight. I'm tiring myself out trying to laugh quietly through my tears. I'm actually struggling to breathe! HAHAHAHA!!! xxx
@BenAllenmusic It's mostly because I was sitting on a giant pile of Bway revival audios when I compiled this thing. I'm sure there was no shortage of amusing mishaps in other productions, it's just that nobody was recording them.
Oh my God this has got to be one of the funniest things I've ever heard! I started DYING at 3:49! Oh Jesus, they should make sure someone can hit all the notes BEFORE they give them the part! I"m sure he was just having a bad day, but still! Hysterical!
Why im not so lucky to see someone make a blooper on stage? the best blooper ive seen is just hitting a door softly and then it just opened a bit... but very funny!!
Okay major cringe for Norm and Alex, Imagine being on stage and that happening, its a horrible feeling, your head gets really hot and you just panic. Ouch 3:49.....
LMAO...poor Norm Lewis and Gemignani forgetting almost the ENTIRE confrontation and having to adlib it...To quote a previous comment, Victor Wallace sound slike he was getting a prostate exam...and Gyuala's scream is EPIC XD
@JustPuppyLuv The Broadway revival was HORRIBLE during previews. It was like watching a high school's first rehearsal. The sound, the lighting, the stoic acting... don't remind me. One month later, however, much better. And when they brought in John Owen Jones, it became one of the most professional and breath-taking productions I have ever seen. Everyone stepped it up.
When i saw it in Bergen in 2008 lasse lindtner who played javert made a mistake; he was going to tell valjean that he had an obligation to report to the police on a regular basis (the word for that is "meldeplikt") but he said "vikeplikt", meaning an obligation a driver has to stop when a car comes on your right side.
Huingrian Valjean is my idol!!! That that epically hiralous! Mon Dieu! I couldn't stop laughing! Why is it that there were a ton of Enjy-bloopers? Pretty boys shouldn't think too hard about those high notes!"Pretty Boys", Thats something our peot friend might actually say.I feel bad for the poeple on stage waiting for Thenardiar, I've been on stage when somone frogets their enterance and its not fun. I feel bad for cosette and gavvie too, their just kids. But God bless all these others for this!
He missed his entrance. He's supposed to interrupt them with the "Listen!" lines, but instead everyone is sitting there waiting for him to come in, including the music.
I laughed so hard at 3:49 tears were streaming out of my eyes. OH MY GOD!
The multiple bad Enjolrases were a scream as well, although first prize has to go to Victor Wallace for sounding as though he was getting a prostate exam at the last note.
I think the guy at 1:29 decided he wanted to do his Tarzan yell instead of finishing that part of the song.

@njishottlikeatamale He must've got confused with the lyrics. they really go:
They intend to starve us out
Before they start a proper fight
Concentrate their force
Hit us from the right
But because he got the words wrong and said
"They intend to stave us out
So they can see what the can find"
It made sense to end it with "behind" to make it rhyme. Double entendre notwithstanding.

I think it's just that everyone is silent and he's like "LISTEN!!!"...other actors just kind of messed up I guess. But I'm not sure.

Thank you for posting this.

I quite like the "pretty boys" - sexual equality in 19th Century France is the way to go.
The Hungarian Valjean is absolutely hysterical!
