I agree with the person who said the music creeped them out, it did that to me and it reminded me of Tales of the Unexpected. I also remember The Book Tower with Tom Baker doing the same.
The theme tune is called "Manège" and is played by Jacques Lasry, on an instrument called a Cristal Baschet. Taken from a 1968 LP "Structures Sonores No.4".
Beyond if this was you mate all i can say is..Nice hair,lol.1988 i believe?I was about 12 then so my hair was worse. One of the worse fucking things i have ever seen on Tv.The start of picture box scared the crap out of me though.
The kid with the gun was me! I cannot believe this is on here. By far the worst written thing ever - it was fun to make though. I lost my VHS of this in a housefire so if anyone has the whole awful thing or access to it - please post it so I can d/l it and have it back.
Jesus! The music to Picturebox always frightened me - it sounds like it's rising from a cellar. And the drab video look of the programme sort of compounds the creepiness. It'd never get made today etc
Have been trying to remeber what this programme was called for years! Just remembered the spinning box & the presenter! Thought I'd imagined it as none of my friends knew what I was talking about! Classic 80's TV!
i dont remember anything that happened in this program but i do remember that opening theme music. that bear is pretty fucked up.... he reminds me of that tasmanian devil monster thingy thats in creepshow lol
I remember being scared of the rotating box as well as the music. Because it's an empty box, but it looks as though it has been designed to hold something... to present something... That cushion in the middle...? maybe a severed finger - or a hand - would rest on it. You invite your victorian friends around, wind-up the music, and watch the severed body part rotate. Laughs all round.
Not bothered about commenting on this episode, but the music is something else,Had to endure it in the school TV room way back, It conjures up images of perhaps going back in time to a victorian fairground, or you can imagine witnessing a manifestation of a ghost fair, and this being the music that you're hearing! really erie.I just remember feeling strange when it was on. The presenter also was in Brookside apparently, was it Nick Black the character he played.
God even the music creeps me out! Love it...however, far more disturbing was the intro to the schools program Near and Far. Brrrrr...shit myself to that!
Yes. Unfortunately with the introduction of Political Correctness, and the general "sanitisation" of children's television, we will never again see programmes as scary as this for kids.
13? ffs we used to get dragged along to the school tv room when we were about 8 to watch this stuff. ive still got the nervous twitch and sleep with a gun under my pillow. lololol. i used to love the music and that glass/silver box with the red silk in it turning round. i didnt have many toys or get out much as a child. i dont remember it being scary either. bit dodgy this one though, young boy getting chased in woods by big hairy flasher lol
i remember an episode about a little wooden man floating down a stream.
