  • WinatallcostsLAD

  • sensi

  • thumbs-up if snopes brought you here

  • haha, what weasels :)

  • Man that's just taking advantage of a loophole.

  • hahahahaha

  • Barbados all da way!!!

  • the keeper was like... "what the hell ~~~"

  • i've listen to it thousand times and i still don't get it or it just don't make sense

  • @kickitable Team 1 is winning 2-1...they need to win by 2 goals...in overtime 1 goal counts as 2 goals...so Team 1 score on themselves and in overtime so when they beat Team 2 they win 4-2

  • lol, the worst thought out rules ever

  • LAD

  • I get it

  • best thing I've ever seen

  • Pa flipar

  • ahahahaha

  • Weirdest.... game.... EVER!!!

  • Barbados also defended both ends of the pitch, and held off Grenada for the final five minutes, sending the game into extra time. In extra time, Barbados notched the game-winner, and, according to the rules, was awarded a 4-2 victory, which put them through to the next round.

  • However, the Barbados players started defending their opposition's goal to prevent them doing this, and during the game's last five minutes, the fans were treated to the incredible sight of Grenada trying to score on either goal.

  • The Grenadians realized what was going on, and attempted to score an own goal as well, which would put Barbados back in front by one goal but would eliminate them from the competition.

  • Barbados were leading 2-0 until the 83rd minute, when Grenada scored, making it 2-1. Approaching the dying moments, the Barbadians realized they had no chance of scoring past Grenada's mass defence, so they turned around and deliberately scored an own goal to tie the game, which would send it into extra time and give them another half hour to break down the defence.

  • There was an unusual match between Barbados and Grenada.

Grenada went into the match with a superior goal difference, meaning that Barbados were required to win by two goals to progress to the finals. The trouble was caused by an unusual rule which stated that in the event of a game going to sudden death extra time, the goal would count double, meaning that the winner would be awarded a two goal victory.

  • This is amazing! Is there no other footage of this match? There should be. Anyone knows where this video comes from? Maybe nubecielo knows?

  • thats smart

  • lol those spectators cant have had a clue as to what was going on. thats great

  • ah you always see that own goal on blooper videos, but it was actually something cleverly planned!

  • can someone tell me wtf the keeper is doing on that 1st goal?

  • It's simple, ahem! The organisers messed up by making the Extra Time Golden Goal worth two, thinking it would be fairer, goal-diff-wise in the group stage. No group stage draws were allowed. So Barbados needing to win by 2 and being 2-1 up near the end realised that an own goal would force extra-time where they'd try to get the 'double' Golden Goal. Grenada then realised that only losing by one would see them through and tried to score against themselves while Barbados defended THEIR goal. Haha.

  • @PayneSkillington Is this really true though? If you look at the wikipedia page for the tournament, you can see that some games in the group stage did end in draws. Bizarre.

  • @pmanngw - You are correct but if you read the text on Wikipedia you'll see that what I said is essentially right. No draws were allowed in the 90 minutes and therefore went to extra time but if no further goals were scored in extra time, the result stood as a draw. I hope this clears up what was a bizarre event.

  • stupid rules :)

  • that makes no bloody sense. why would the game go into extra time? was it aone-off game or was there somekind of aggregate game?? the ref should have just stopped the game if no one was going to play. The only thing similar to this was a South Asian cup game where a team deliberately tried to lose big so they wouldn't play a stronger team in the semis.I think that team (vietnam maybe?) was banned for two years from the tourney

  • i just read this story on snopes and the rule was Barbados had to win by two clear goals and were 2-1 up at the time. thinking they couldnt score a third they scored against themselves to take it to penalties. penalties had a ridiculous rule of allowing the winner to get a 2-0 result in their favour

  • The rules of the tournament is that Barbados HAD to win by 2 clear goals to progress.

Granada would have progressed since the game was B 2 - G 1. Barbados scored on themselves to tie the game, so they could go into sudden death. Until the end of the game from that point, Barbados was defending both sides of the field, so that Granada wouldn't score on either goal.

Barbados then won by scoring a goal in the Sudden Death, which gave them 2 points to 0.

  • From what I've read about this, Barbados had to prevent Grenada from also scoring an own goal in the last few minutes of regulation time or Grenada, while losing the match, would still advance on goal differential.

  • Aye, and then Grenada realised that to score in EITHER goal would put them through. So at one stage Barbados were defending both goals simiutaneously lol.

A pity there aren't more complete highlights than this on youtube. It dosen't at all capture the sheer insanity of the thing.

  • lol Bajans boy...

  • hahaha this is damn funny!!!

  • @nubecielo jajaja

  • oh, this was the match. I've seen this video on funny football but i never know it was a between two caribbean teams

  • First of all, what a moronic rule! Secondly, the referee should have abandoned that game after Barbados deliberately scored the own goal. Totally unsporting

  • Well Jodamu, why unsporting? i agree with that? if you play, you play with rules, and if scoring own goal helps you - do it and win!

  • It's hardly in the interests of fair play though is it? It's a ridiculous rule anyway, but the ref should've intervened. You can't let a game continue when players are trying to put the ball in their own net

  • auheuaheuahea

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • very confused

  • :( they didn't show the other team trying to score in its own net while Barbados tries to defend both goals...

  • This video is missing what happened between the own goal and the sudden death extra time! When Grenada tried to score an own goal too, and Barbados started to defend both their's and Grenada's goal, while Grenada tried to score a goal in both ends of the field.

  • un partido normal

  • Un partido normal so ceporro?

  • Greatest game of all time.

  • BARBADOS JUST HARD!!!!!!!!

  • sensacional

  • idiot, thats not a fake.

at that championship: carabian cup, if the team wins in extratime they get a bonus of 2 goals, but barbados was winning 2-1 but they needed a 2 goal difference. so they scored an own goal, and Grenada tryied to score in their on net to make the score 3-2 for barbados and do not go to extra time, cause was left just 3 minutes till the end of the match.

  • check it out on snopes. its real.

  • I saw this on snopes

  • ahahahhah why dont they show the last 3 minutes omg if you see that it's just unbelievebul :S srry 4 my English

  • Nice goal!

But sadly it doesn't show the minutes with both teams trying to score an own goal :(

  • After Barbados did their own goal, Grenada tried to do a goal, no matter which gable, and Barbados defended both goals. So there were no minutes when both teams would try to do own goal.

  • Mark and Lard - Leg-ends!

  • Emocionante

  • Unbeliveable

  • ha ha that is fucking brilliant!

  • This competition had a bizzarre rule in which goals scored in extra time counted double. For ex, if you score a goal in extra time it counts as 2. Barbados needed 2-goal difference to advance and they couldn't score the goal in normal time and they left it to score in extra time. Weird isn't it. In wikipedia it's all explained in the caribbean cup page of year 1994

  • Mark and Lard ! Bless 'em....

  • hah!

    i just read about this!

theres a bit more to it, the to teams start defending the opponents net, because grenada doesnt want it to go into penalty kicks.

this would be fun to see!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

This is classic, this is gold!

  • There's a better description of this on Snopes

    snopes DOT com/sports/soccer/barbados.asp

  • lol I was gonna tell everyone to go there :/ I just read the article and wanted to see it.

  • They needed a two goal lead to get to the next round. the fifa changed the rules before so a goal in ET counted twice. so barbados made an owngoal to reach the ET to have the chance to make a goal to win 4:2

  • go barbados!!

  • Jaja!

    Muy bueno!.

  • maybe astat1 only speaks american english and he needs an american english traslation.

  • English translation pls?
