@SabaturProAudio "No real muffling on the kick"? Um, really? I'm not usually one for splitting hairs, but unless i TOTALLY need an eye test - that's something looking awfully like a pillow inside the bass drum at 055 and 1.34, isn't it?
@deejaybee yup you are correct.. I got confused witht eh Studio Birch demo we did too. This demo had a pillow in the kick and we did use a Remo Powersonic on on the batter and did have the "Pad" attached.
@deejaybee Yup you are correct. I got confused with the Studio Birch Demo we did. This demo had the pillow in the kick and we also used a Remo Powersonic on the batter side with the "pad" attached
@ SabaturProAudio Aye! Cool...but im not really sure cutting my resonant head with a sharp knife LOL...i was wondering what position was that port hole in this video? and what size should it be cut.
@atedj if you are talking about bass drum portholes, there is a video on youtube somewhere which shows how to "burn" a hole into your bass drum using a can. this technique is more useful than using a knife, as the edge is not sharp and is more "round. give it a try, and i hope this helps.
@atedj basically I just laid the head on the ground and using an extremely sharp utility knife cut around a coffee can lol... as far as position... I usually like the hole around the 4 or 8 o'clock position
Sounds great ... very powerful. Too bad drums don't really sound like this accoustically. With all the processing done in this recording you could have used any kit and got pretty close to the same results I think.
okay I gotta say I really like the way the toms sound. the bass doesn't really have that classic chest pounding thud, but it is very cutting so it has that good quality to it. but the snare is aweful dude, throw it out and you got yourself a nice sounding kit.
man this drum set is the best set ive heard, what kind of mics do you use?heads? god daaaaaaymn give me the low down i have a nice tour pro so im a taye fan
Yeah I liked the sounds too.. we used Sennheiser E604's on the toms and a E602 on the kick. We also used 2-MXL67G's for overheads as well as an SM57 on the snare and hats. The heads were Evans EC2's on the toms, Remo Powersonic on kick, and stock Taye (Dynapro) Resonant
sweet!! nice....i also have a taye drum kit too but when you buy new heads like evans hydraulics do you have to change the resonant side with the dynaton heads or you dont have to cuz im not sure wether to buy g1s for the resonant side so what do you think i should do????
On this demo, we did not replace the Dynaton bottom heads. We wanted to test them at the beginning and were surprised with the sound we got with them. However, it is our normal procedure to change the resonant heads on all our test kits. We also prefer the G1's.
Well.. if you put the EC2 heads on the toms and a powersonic on the kick and tune accoringly.. yes.. you should be able to achieve the same sound. Adding some dampening rings and some Moongel will also help
I personally like the Taye Kits... that's why that is ALL we sell! Not just because they are affordable but because they have a GREAT sound also.
The Ddrums are nice.. but my opinion is they are nothing like these! And I am not just saying that because I sell them.. I sell them because I like them! And now they have the NEW Studio Birch ALL Birch shells also!
I love my Taye kit too, iv owned my studio maple kit for about 7 years and they are great, now im just working towards getting them all miced up so i can do some recordings
Hi Dick... also.... what kind of kid mic are you using on this vid? I've switched from a Beta 52 to a Senn E 902... and, I much prefer the 902.... any tips would be appreciated.... George
Thanks for the response.... I got a quote today on the Taye SB...... send me your demo vid when you have it.... I'd love to hear a sample of these drums.... and, I'll add you as a friend... send me a personal message, and we can discuss any potential details of buying.... Peace... George
Nice demo!... Did you record as dry as possible to emulate the drums tone... or did the engineer add compression and eq? Also, how low do you tune all your tom batter heads.... (slightly above wrinkle, or tighter?) I'm considering a Taye... but, I'm looking into the new Studio Birch... any clues on these kits? Peace, George
It was actually a little of both.. I am partial to the "dead" toms. It's funny you mention the Studio Birch, I am about to load a demo video of the 2009 NAMM kit I have here. Short demo. BTW.. It's for sale right now too! I got another one coming in also I want to demo
i love the toms and the bass drum...the snare sounds to bassy for me...btw, how did you get the bass drum at that kind of sound without using an impact pad?
Yes, this was not a "Live" recording. But, it was minimal processing and I mainly wanted to show that the studio Maple is a GREAT kit for recording. Affordable Maple kit and sounds great!
what?I didnt know you could put clear heads on a snare drum.?

@jangel2771 it's not always the most common. but youll see it in a lot of jazz kits.

what kind of mics r u using on the kick and toms?
MATTlovesDRUMS 1 year ago
@MATTlovesDRUMS We actually kept it simple with "inexpensive" mics... we used the Sennheiser E604 on the toms and an E602 on the kick!
SabaturProAudio 1 year ago
@SabaturProAudio thanks! it sounds so good with inexpensive mics
MATTlovesDRUMS 1 year ago
I have the same kit, but I didn´t bought that snare. I have a black panther in maple. But these drums are really good.
But the snare in the video sounds good as well!

wow. that first rack tom sounds almost like an octoban
ameliorate2695 2 years ago
Very 70s Thud. A little scooping on the toms' EQ and HARD-HITTING can get you those 80s metal sounds.

DO NOT get hydraulics if you have a decent kit. All they do is kill the tone and resonance.
bobomchobo 2 years ago
hey love the kit tell me what heads did you use on the snare drum? ive been trying to get my snare to sound as sweet as that kits please enlighten me
freeandchained1329 2 years ago
The head used on the snare was a Powerstroke 3 and a couple Moongel strips. Tuned high and tight
SabaturProAudio 2 years ago
So, if I were to order this kit. would it sound like this?
HunterxSikk 2 years ago

Yes.. the original Dynaton heads were used on the bottoms and we were still able to get them that low.
SabaturProAudio 2 years ago
Ey thats a great kit. How did you achieve that deep and wet sound of the bass drum and toms in the recording?
silhy37 2 years ago
Heads are first and foremost.. Evans EC2's and a Remo Powersonic. Adding in compression and EQ helps the shaping.
SabaturProAudio 2 years ago
why are the drums tuned so deep?

i love the sound of the drums...i have a taye rock pro kit and it is amazing...what are the sizes of the drums?
