Thanks to Joan for a clear picture of China growing, going strong.... Enduring hardship under own rule is better than suppressed by outsiders. To help others we first get up... By ourselves. Our body, our country is best governed by ourselves. And China is doing all it can to achieve its goal.
he's the guy that stood in front of the tanks in Taiwan, in tiennemen square to protest. his story and the picture of him blocking the tanks is very famous. it's in school textbooks, motivational posters, and it's very trivial.
no you're wrong. baez is not a partisan commmunist. she was again war in vietnam because she's again war. when communist take the power in vietnam and that she knew what happen she was against these communist for what they did. and a lot of people in america like jane fonda didn't understand her. she was for vietnam and now she is against vietanm lol ?
Jaan was never a Communist sympathizer. She was a Peace Acvitivst, anti-violence, anti-war! The communists used any and all possible tactics to undermine the Peace Movement, including the attempt to associate Peace Activists with the Communist movement.
YOU are A liar. Baez's battles w/ North Viet Nam, Cambodia, Russia, Poland, Czech Repub. are all well documented. She is credited by Leach Walsea and Valclav Havel for her aid in dumping the Commies in East Europe. Even Reagan praised BAEZ for her attack on North Viet Nam . Carter Sent the 7th fleet to rescue the "Boat People" from the Commies on her recommendation!! Jane Fonda attacked BAEz and called her a CIA agent because of Baez's attack on No Viet Nam!!!!!
And take a listen to her comments on her live FROM EVERY STAGE album from 1976 where, in her introduction to a song about dissident Natalia Gorbanevskaya, she strongly criticizes the Soviet Union on their atrocious human rights record. She has been equally critical of both right *and* left wing abuses.
What a beautiful person and amazing talent is Joan Baez. I only wish that she had been more vocal when America was entering the war in Iraq...we needed her voice and her common sense then too. Love Live Joan Baez!
Thanks to everyone who has posted kind comments about this. I don't have any more of Joan from the concert, sadly, the TV show was just one song per artist. I could do you some Swiss guys playing cow-bells ;-)
As for the Olympic connection, pure coincidence: I just bought a PC connector for my video recorder!
This appears to be an early version of the song: Joan is reading the lyrics sheet (She wrote the music and lyrics.)The lyrics are different in several places than the recorded version from her 1989 album "Speaking of Dreams". Thank you again! Dave
Joan Baez is known for changing the lyrics of the songs, hers or not (and not always for the best in some cases), so there is nothing weird in her singing a version and recording another one. In this particular case, as she is also used to tour with her new songs to see the impact on the audiance and improve the songs if need be, I find nothing special in singing this "early" version in Montreux. Except that it is a good song :-) and I have the whole concert on CD...great ! :-D
What a great surprise! Thank you for sharing this video with us. I wish that there was not a limit on the amount of characters that I can write here in the comments section. Thank you so much! This song takes on added meaning with China's PR work regarding the upcoming Olympic Games. Dave in SF, CA, USA

Great song in the reportage style of Woody Guthrie, sung by a woman who has every right to. Just a pity the filming is so poor

Joan Baez was a Communist sympathizer in the 1960's. the facts are irrefutable. Stop being wowed by her singing and realize the facts you sheeple.
