I began playing my Ibanez bass and Crate amp several months ago after buying both for $80 on Craigslist. Its very relaxing for me. I surprise myself by being able to follow along with songs and not getting as much string buzz from my fingers being in the wrong place on the frets. I like laying on my back with the guitar on my chest. The trouble is...that I can't play worth a shit while standing up. Please help.
@skatethe608 Yeah, I got one. It says Police line Do Not Cross. Really cool, yellow and black. So you're saying I should put it on the geetar first and then try it?
For those of you asking about bass guitars and which ones to get and such... It's no different that electric, acoustic, mics, or keyboards or any other instrument. It's all a matter of which sounds good to you, which you feel most comfortable using and how much you're willing to spend. Go to these stores and play around with the equipment and get a feel for them. Don't feel the need to buy the most expensive one there.
After watching this I bought the entire beginners download from Stu's site, I can say it's excellent. If any of you are hesitant, trust me...it's worth it!

Hi. I'm playing with a group of friends, most of us beginners like me. After several weeks playing together they "suggest me" that will be better to stop playing with finger and use a pick. the truth is with the pick sounds better, but i see that all the good bass player use their finger instead of a pick, and the truth I like more the fingers than the pick. What could be the cause of this difference between pick and finger and how can I fix it in order to play with better sound?. Thanks.
@lorddinaire if it sounds better go with it. there's no one right way to play. watch emma from sick puppies she switches seemlessly between - so it's just a matter of preference, what sound you're trying to produce.
I've only just begun learning bass and I wanted to know if anybody could just guide me in the right direction to learning all I need to effectively become at least Bass-friendly :P I know the parts of the Bass guitar, and I know EADG, but i'm not sure in which direction to go as for learning. Can anybody help me out with learning the bits after that, because like I said, i'm not very experienced and i'm just trying to learn the best I can. Thanks!
@GammaRayOneTwo I personally think your method of learning may be different than mine. For about the first three months I had my bass I wasn't sure what to do with it. I just fiddled around kinda, and learned basically how the guitar feels. You could go to a local music store and purchase an instructional dvd/book. You can look on youtube to find others who teach your favorite (simpler) songs. If you decide that the instrument is something worth your while, you could even try a music teacher.

@NeverShoutFaggot he's saying that it will take time and that you won't learn it over night, he is not teaching you the alphabet he is just giving an example
Personally, I would highly recommend acoustic amp. I have a B200, and it sounds great. I play a lot of jazz, and I can get a great jazzy sound out of it. If jazz isn't your thing, it sounds great if you do alot of funk or rock. It's all around good for any genre really. Plus, you really get a lot of amp for a suprisingly low price.
Bassists like Jaco and Led Zepplin's bassist (Sorry,I forget the name) use this brand. I know there are more, but their names escape me.
So I have this Joe Satriani CD and on one of the songs JOe introduces "on the bass guitar, Mr. Stu Hamm".(sp?) Nice to have a face to go with the name. Rillim007 Buy a Squier by Fender beginer bass package. It comes with a fender practice amp, fender head phones, how to play dvd, all the cables you need, a digital tuner that plugs right into your bass. And a VERY nice fender bass.the squier basses are just as nice as the real Fenders they even have REALLY good sustain. best part is it's only$299.99 for the package. and when you get good just upgrade the pickups and you have the same bass as the $1,000 dollor fender basses!
i'm looking at getting a fender highway1 precision bass to learn on. i wanted something that's going to last a long time and sounds good. should i invest or get something cheaper?
@BeccaGSD for a grammar nazi who's dumped paragraphs of condescending e-trash onto a youtube comments page, you forgot that there's no apostrophe in "commas". it's not a contraction for "comma is". if you're going to going to belittle people on grammar and punctuation you can never make a mistake like that or the internet will call you a fucking moron. your pseudo intellectualism just got fucking checked.
You cannot convey emotion here, and my initial correction was JUST the NAME of the instrument, as it is a revered bass, and it is good to spell the instrument of your CRAFT correct.
I meant NO harm,..K came back as a condescending jerk. More power to him.
I am sorry, very much, I am 38 and should have expressed myself better. I truly at the inception of this conversation had no intention of being arrogant or sarcastic.
I am a musician, and had had a very bad day.
I apologize for the insults, and immaturity, and I am sorry you no longer have your parents. I lost my father 6 yrs ago on Jan 28th.
I have a son 1 yr older then you.
If you ever want to talk music, send me a line on my email here, and out of this forum.

You can usually find cheap ones in small local music shops, too. Ask around, maybe there is one near the place you live.
Well, depends on what you consider cheap, too... I'm hoping to get something for about 300lv, which is around 150 euros. Might be cheap for a bass but I still had to save up...

You too

I am sorry, very much, I am 38 and should have expressed myself better. I truly at the inception of this conversation had no intention of being arrogant or sarcastic.
I am a musician, and had had a very bad day.
I apologize for the insults, and immaturity, and I am sorry you no longer have your parents. I lost my father 6 yrs ago on Jan 28th.
I have a son 1 yr older then you.
If you ever want to talk music, send me a line on my email here, and out of this forum.
Again, I am sorry.

Not a problem, and I apologize as well for misjudging the situation. The argument was, in its entirety, my fault

@Rillim007 Rillim007 Buy a Squier by Fender beginer bass package. It comes with a fender practice amp, fender head phones, how to play dvd, all the cables you need, a digital tuner that plugs right into your bass. And a VERY nice fender bass.the squier basses are just as nice as the real Fenders they even have REALLY good sustain. best part is it's only$299.99 for the package. and when you get good just upgrade the pickups and you have the same bass as the $1,000 dollor fender basses!

ibanez all the way. once you get good, go for a fender

ichaichaparadice 2 years ago
where r u from?? and how much is bass?
DanteTrishVergil 2 years ago
depending on brand the prices can be a big difference. u can find cheaper ones online. hope this helps!!
critic131 2 years ago
You can usually find cheap ones in small local music shops, too. Ask around, maybe there is one near the place you live.
Well, depends on what you consider cheap, too... I'm hoping to get something for about 300lv, which is around 150 euros. Might be cheap for a bass but I still had to save up...
