They're called intercostal grooves and they are normal.

They arent folds, its just an illusion created by the pattern of this particular tiger salamander.

No, salamanders (Not newts) have little grooves on their sides. Although it is quite a nice illusion.

aww. He looks kinda liek mine, although mine is a spotted slamander. Spmtimes i try to get him to take the food from my fingers but he eats gross things and I freak when they grab me. LOLz liek the wax worms, they cling to my nails. :X
