  • how many money do each person get

  • hi :-) if you failed to roll doubles on your 3rd turn in jail, can a get out of jail free card still be used instead of paying the $50 at that point?

  • @marsh84722 yep, a get out of jail free card can be used at any time in jail :)

  • One more quick question about a chance card :-S On the chance card "advance token to nearest utility". Does nearest mean the nearest going forward only (same with nearest railroad)? Water works is found 8 spaces behind a chance card and the electric company is found 16 ahead of that same chance card. Wouldn't water works be the one to go to then? Also it doesn't say whether you get pass GO money or not, is it assumed we do?

  • @marsh84722 You always advance on the Monopoly board except when drawing the go back 3 spaces card. So you would advance to the utility in front of you, even if the one behind you is closer. If you are advancing and go past GO, you collect $200.

  • The version I have says luxury tax is $100. On every other version of monopoly I've played it was $75. According to wiki, it's been increased to $100 since the September 2008 version of the game.

  • @marsh84722 Yes, the new versions have several new additions to make the game go faster. When I play on one of those, I just play with $75 luxury tax and include the10% option on income tax. You can play either way, however. Its not really going to affect the outcome, it just depends if you want to play a little more quickly.

  • On Go it says "collect $200 as you pass GO". Does that technically mean that you don't collect the $200 if you land on GO, as in getting the $200 after you move past it? If that's the case, does the community chest card that says "advance to GO collect $200" actually give you an extra $200?

  • @marsh84722 Yes you do get $200 for landing on GO (as in the next tern you will move past it). The community chest card does not give you an extra $200 for GO. Awesomeness for paying such close attention to detail in Monopoly!

  • @monopolybestgameevar yeah that's what I figured too although I could see this theoretically making a difference. If a player lands on GO when just a few dollars from bankruptcy then the next player gets a "collect $50 from each player card". If they had to wait until passing GO it could make a big difference in the game.

  • I just bought monopoly recently. Some of the rules are changed a bit on this one. The income tax for example doesn't give you the option to pay a percentage or $200. It just says you must pay $200. They changed the color of Baltic and Mediterranean to brown too. Ever heard of this?

  • @marsh84722 yes, i have this new version of monopoly. This however, is the speed version of the game, so when I make videos such as this one explaining rules, I use the standard set. I also call Baltic and Mediterranean dark purples or browns interchangeably. This is how they play now in tournaments though (with the speed dice too). I'll make a video concerning this soon!

  • what is the simple meaning of go to jail move directly to jail ''do not pass'' go do not collect 200

  • When you released at the jail by the turn of roll doubles, you roll the dice again ?

  • @markyvitan If you are released from jail by rolling doubles, you do not roll the dice again. If you pay or use a get out of jail free card and then roll doubles, you do roll the dice again.

  • @monopolybestgameevar thankyou very much,i can play with my cousin

  • you can unmortgage your property anytime? or with limit?

  • @markyvitan between any two turns, just not in the middle of a turn (even if the person rolls doubles)

  • can you put a video about the auction of the property. Thank you

  • what is the rules in auction bidding

  • @markyvitan You can bid up by any amount greater than $1 and the person who put the property up for auction can bid on it, hope that what what you wanted cleared up!

  • How much money do you need to play monopoly (be pacific) (like how much 1,5,10,20,50,100,and500 dollars you need

  • @Tru4theBeast 5 of each $1, $5, $10 bills, 6 $20 bills, 2 of each $100 and $500 bills. :)

  • Do you have to pay rent for landing on your property

  • Hi, When I beat a player, do I get all of said player's money or is it put in the bank? I know his properties are auctioned, I just don't know what's going on. In the long run, you still don't get what the player owes you.

  • @BenGeocth When you bankrupt a player, you get everything they had. All property, money and get out of jail free cards go to you. You can then unmortgage and develop them, so even though you aren't getting the rent, you get everything they once owned and can make money off of that.

  • OK. THIS will be the last thing. I finally got the game, just one more question. Let's say I mortgage The Water Works, which has a mortgage value of 75 dollars. To unmortgage it, I pay back the mortgage value plus 10% that I know, but technically, the 10% of 75$ is 7.50, do I round up to $8 and pay $83 or what?

  • @Lugo428 I don't think there is an official rule for that, but I am pretty sure you round up to $8, this also would be the case for Park Place which has a value of $175 mortgaged

  • Thank you so much for clarifying everything. I basically googled up monopoly for dummies, so instructionas were REALLY easy to understand. And your explanation of mortaging cleared everything up. Thank you so much.

  • Okay. This is the last thing I don't understand. Let's say there are 4 players A, B, C and D. Player C rolls and lands on player A's property, but is short $50 for rent, so he mortages a property worth $100. Do he get the cash value of the mortgage? That's the only thing I don't understand.

  • @Lugo428 Player C gets the amount of money printed on the back of the card (half of the sale value), he keeps $50 for himself and gives the $50 he owes to player A.

  • I haven't been this confused since... my teacher taught me how to play RISK. I can't grasp this part, maybe next time, use a visual example. The guy who made the RISK video did, and it made perfect sense. I'm a visual learner, I would really like to know how to play Monopoly again, please.

  • @Lugo428 For sure, I will be making more videos on this topic soon, so I will include some visual examples. I am more of an auditory learner, so I forget how visuals can help some people.

  • Precisely where in the rules does it state that you can't have rent immunity?

  • @MyzterB look in the trading section :) You can play with immunity, your game is going to last several hours longer however

  • Hey there.

I have a question, if for example i land on an unowned property and do not wish to buy it, will it then automatically be auctioned to the highest bidder? if so does that mean that if playing with only 2 players the other player can just buy it for $1 if i am really not intrested in buying the property on which im standing ?

Love your channel and love monopoly, kind regards

    Ruben

  • @ectoplasma2 Yes, that is technically possible, but remember, you can also always bid on a property you put up, so if you are buying it for less than mortgage value, it is worth it to bid.

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH!!

I can rest my case on immunities. I knew it had to be some made up rule

  • oh ok thanks. one more question lol.. ok is it true that you can make an offer for a property?? lets say someone else have a property that I need, can i just try buying if from that person. I heard you can only do trades

  • @saldivarrr Yes, it is called trading cash. You can trade any amount of cash, properties or "get out of jail free" cards for any other amount of cash properties or "get out of jail free" cards.

  • Oh ok thanks. One more question ok let's say I own all three properties with same color do I buy houses at anytime or do I have to land there to buy houses?

  • @saldivarrr you can buy houses between anyones turn. The only time you can't buy is during someones turn.

  • ok are you sure what you said.. i read it online.. if you land on a utility you gotta roll the dice and multiply that by 4 or 10 ...

  • @saldivarrr yes, i am sure. If you land on a utility you pay the amount on the dice shown by four if one is owned and 10 if both are owned. You only re-role if you get the "advance token to nearest utility card". This is in the official rules as well as "The Monopoly Companion" which is where i get all my information.

  • I always run into the problem of players trying to liberalize the rules. For example, the rules of trade are very loosely defined in monopoly. Sometimes I will plan and my opponents will try to make three player trades, or agree to a profit sharing structure trade to share profits with another player in exchange for cash or properties. What are your thoughts on these kinds of game play?

    Jeff

  • @mtheadspace13 I don't think that would really work. Keep in mind, the goal of Monopoly is to bankrupt the other players, so if you are sharing profits with them, it doesn't work. If you are doing a three way trade, that is ok as far as i know.

  • bah my friends cheated yesterday, i was owed lots of money that he didnt have so he sold all his assets to the other player or $1 and i was left without getting my money.

    Damn cheaters lol

  • thanks for your help ;)

  • Nevermind. End of post.

  • Okay, as you already know, I'm a fellow monopoly enthusiast. I have a dilemma that I often come across when playing a game involving my dad. He has this strategy of not buying most properties, and auctions the ones he lands on. That is of course if he lands on the Greens. He usually saves up his money to develop the Greens, which as you know can be a cash cow if developed to 3 houses. So I end up with many properties cheap, but usually only 1 or 2 color groups get completed.. see next post.

  • @plessans Why does your dad like the green? Yes they are a powerhouse, but the yellows are a whole lot better. They pay off quicker and are more likely to be landed on. For your sake, you should not buy too many cheap properties. Yes the utilities are cheap, but it takes forever to get your money back. You can also play a version of the game where all properties landed on are immediately gone to auction. This version requires an incredible knowledge of the Monopoly game.

  • @monopolybestgameevar He likes the greens because they have the second highest rent and there are 3 properties he's just oblivious to what you and I know about the yellows.

  • I generally try not to build houses on a color group until two things are satisfied: 1) I can afford to build houses and 2) a player's token is positioned within two rolls of the dice of the color group. One can still take a gamble and build, even if money is tight, but knowing when to take a chance comes with experience. For example, if you are low on cash and your opponent is winning greatly, it could be worth it to build as many houses as possible on a group if your chances are low anyway.

  • @plessans I usually buy at least one house on each as soon as i get a color group. If I have enough money right away, and mortgaging my properties that are not in a group or worth trading, I go up to three on each. I only build when players are near my group, 2 dice roles is a good amount. I always keep 200-300 on me at all times.

  • @monopolybestgameevar I don't usually build as soon as I get a color group unless I have enough money to do so...that's just common sense. Plus, one has to get a feel for knowing if building now could bite you in the ass in a few turns. I agree, the "build 3 houses" guideline is a must know.
