hey nice review. i have a konova myself the old version like yours and I'm trying to useit with my fluid head on the slider itself but the slider platform seems too wobbly when i try to pan up/down l/f with the fluid head on and d7000, any suggestions?
@vinh291 If I understand correctly, you have the fluid head on the "carriage" itself and it is this carriage that is wobbly on your slider. I would say to adjust your bearings to get a better grip on the rails. My carriage is rock solid and doesn't wobble at all. I do remember while adjusting the bearings though that leaving them too lose would make it that way.
@dothisdothat321 Sorry you don't like it. I've actually been rather impressed with the build quality. Especially for the price. Sliders are a rather competitive market though, so I'm sure you can find one that you like.
@agnosticautonomy I did have to adjust the friction on the bearings with the included tool that they provide. After dialing it in, it really works great.
Uh, it flexes every time you move it left and right. Look at the ends of the slider, as soon as the camera gets close they visibly dip. Each time. That has to be visible in the footage. What am I missing here? How is that acceptable?
@Aeroet Well, you can tell that this movement is coming from the 501 Tripod Head itself. The slider has nothing to do with the undesired "flexing." I will admit I could have tightened the head a bit more to help eliminate it. With a very wide lens (in this case, 11-16mm) the movement is very negligible. However, where precision is paramount, I support the slider at both ends, which is easily accomplished because this slider has holes drilled at each end, and underneath on the ends.
@R3APER24 Yes, and what I have actually had great success with is mounting the DSLR backwards into the 701HDV fluid head. Then I am able to get the angle perfectly straight for "crane" type shot. If you mount the camera into the 701 tripod head normally, it actually doesn't allow you to angle the head enough to achieve a horizontal camera angle. (hard to explain, but if you had these tools together to experiment you would understand what I mean.)
@dinthisane This is actually an old Bogen Manfrotto 3021 I believe is the model number. Nowadays I use it with the 055 series of tripods from Manfrotto. Works a treat with our DSLR's.
@na27der It absolutely is. You can use the threads in either end of the slider in order to install an adapter that allows the slider to be mounted upside down between two lightstands or other grip equipment.
@hotgypsylips@MichaelAngeloTech - I also have the same question. Are you using the Manfrotto 577QR quick release plate or just the standard 501 plate?
@Paulcook04 The tripod has the standard Manfrotto 501HDV head installed. The 501PL quick release plate is mounted directly to the bottom of the slider. I also mount another quick release plate to the end of the slider in order to mount it vertically for vertical sliding shots. Then I have a Manfrotto 701HDV fluid head installed on the slider carriage itself for more options with camera movement.

Oh yeah, to fix the problem with the loose legs, go to Home Depot and get some non-slip tape, usually for putting on the bottom of chair legs to keep them from sliding on linoleum. I just custom cut it to the shape of the legs and now, I don't have that problem.
@laughingcrows I have been impressed everytime I use this slider. We are only as good as our skills and creativity, but I've been able to get some killer shots with it.
@anojt - Not too long. I'm used to things shipping from Asia, so 3 weeks is relatively standard. It didn't take that long however, probably closer to 8-12 days.
@tividor This is really going to depend on how solid your Tripod head is that you mount the slider onto. It needs to be able to support the load you are trying to use without moving at all. You can see that in my video I did not have it as tight as I could have and this caused a bit of wobble at the extremities.
Hi was this the 59 inch slider?

@Aeroet It's the play in the tripod head tilt, you can see it by the movement of the panbar.

What video heads are you using here? Manfrotto 701 or 501?
fwijffels 5 months ago
@fwijffels I guess it's a 701
mogyesz225 3 months ago
@mogyesz225 The camera is on the 701; The slider itself is on the 501.
MichaelAngeloTech 3 months ago
@fwijffels Actually both. 501 on the tripod, 701 on the slider. Together, they can be a powerful combination for interesting moving shots.

With a ball head, you can do crane shots.

hotgypsylips 10 months ago
@hotgypsylips @MichaelAngeloTech - I also have the same question. Are you using the Manfrotto 577QR quick release plate or just the standard 501 plate?
Paulcook04 9 months ago
@Paulcook04 Any plate will do, the one your tripod use, no need to be manfroto, I'm using WF717, and when no on tripod, I use a ball head.
hotgypsylips 9 months ago
@hotgypsylips You might also want to check out the 270 that supercedes the 717. Protog have done a comparison video
