Aaron Russon has misinformation. The income tax is not a direct tax. The income tax is an indirect tax (excise tax), so the rule of apportionment is irrelevant. The 16th Amendment is not the power behind the income tax, it is article 1 section 8. So the income is legal but its legality is outlined on title 26. Never does title 26 or an Irs indictment ever mentions the subject of the tax. If you want to know download Cryer's memorandum and read it.

I have to disagree with you, ih2005. The income tax, or fair tax, is all about big government to get bigger. It is about taking from private workers their life and time to pay for excess in government.

If the government was running the way our founders had ment it to, there is no need for either the Income or the so called 'fair tax'.

The fair tax in my view would be 0%.
