It is a piece of organ music attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach. It is one of the most famous works in the organ repertoire, and has been used in a variety of popular media ranging from film (1950s Sunset Boulevard, 1975's Rollerball), to video games, to rock music, and ringtones. The attribution of the piece to Bach has been challenged since the 1980s by a number of scholars.
Kelly Thanks for posting as you can see there were quite a few of us who Loved the Dr Shock Shows I'm one of them. Wakeup todays programming is Junk with all your reality crap!! Bubbles I wish you the Best John

What ever happened to Boris, the hunchback assistant that used to get wacked all the time with the rubber chicken by Dr. Shock????? My friends and I thought that guy was hillarious. The show was on I think on Saturday night (maybe 1970-71). Anyone remember him washing his pantyhose in the urinal? I remember we were disappointed when he left the show. He was replaced by Bateman, I think.
Unfortunately, it was routine to reuse videotape, due to budgetary constraints. As the tape was needed, Dr. Shock episodes that were aired were erased and used for news remotes, or other things. Also when Kaiser sold CH 17 in the 80's, any remaining old shows would have been erased, for the new owner's uses.
@ROTTINGDEAD You are correct. The family, Doreen included, does have each episode on a studio master.
In that post however, I was referring to Kaiser Broadcasting, and how the TV station handled the show tapes, and any video material that the public could access.
except for the best of show after his death, the complete shows were erased,i called channel 17,and they told me that, apparently they were not very bright.it angers me greatly.
i remember watching Mad and Horror theaters on saturday afternoons in the 70s and i also recall watching Scream-In on saturday nights from 68-70. his real name was Joe Zawislak and sadly he died of a heatre attack in sept.1979,his daughter Bubbles, whose real name is Doreen,is still around and runs a website dedicated to he father's memory.
@saml760 Glad to hear Bubbles is still around and honoring her father's legacy. Everyone and their mother liked Dr. Shock. Or as we called him Shocky Doc. It was the place to be on a Saturday afternoon before you got too interested in boys or girls lol. I loved the show. I think it aired out of Philly if I recall. I would love to watch this with my grandson today bc I think it's timeless. Silly B horror movies that all kids love.
II wish they would bring this back to life. Get a girl do her up like a women dr Frankenstein or a vampire but not like Elvira, better then Stella from SND. Make her up ike a gothic, play the movie in a mausoleum.
I loved Dr Shock as a kid growing up in Philly! Has anyone ever heard what his daughter "Bubbles" is doing these days? Must've been great growing up with a Dad like him!
I lived in Easton PA from 72 to 77. EVERY saturday afternoon I was in front of the TV to catch Shock and Horror Theater on channel 17. Ironically (maybe not so much), I didn't know or care who the 2nd thru the 4th presidents of the United States (I still have Bicentennial flashbacks), but I knew who Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr. and Vincent Price were.
I remember growing up watching Dr.Shock faithfully every Sat, And I remember one of the movies "The Man With Two Heads" Staring Rosie Grerr from the Los Angeles Rams.
I lived in south Philly during the 1970s as a child (ages 2-12). I watched this Saturday afternoon horror program religiously, from around age 6 until it's demise in 1979, of Dr S. I meet his daughter Bubbles at a local Cherry Hill horror con back in 2003, she was merchandising her father's legacy. I miss this program and the innocence of youth.
Is there any possible way to get a listing of all the movies he played? I never missed an episode and was pissed when they'd show sports instead. lol.
I lived in New Jersey and still do, but we got Dr. Shock on channel 17.
One time in the very early 70's, he read my cousin's letter on the air, and we were all totally buzzed by that!
Do you remember when they had the 2 hour long tribute to Dr. Shock when he passed away in 1977? That was a sad day man. I can't believe that's 32 years out of my life...even sadder knowing that his studio lays empty with just cobwebs and memories in every corner..
We had Sammy Terry,Son of Svengali and if memory serves me correctly Son of Svengooli on tv channel WTTV4 and channel 59 on friday nights around 11:30pm-saturdays at 10pm and tons of double-feature fridays......Sammys sidekick:Ghoulsby,George The Spider( Sammy's real life wife operated George The Spider from above on strings ).The Other Horror Hosts always had a variety of guests and sidekicks and many frightful shows, gimmicks and other scarey stuff to boot!!!!!!!!! Luv scarey stuff!!!
OMG...now I totally remember that opening. I was so creeped out by the dead person in the coffin when I was little! I couldnt wait on Saturday afternoons at 1pm when this came on channel 17 :D
I lived in central PA in the 70s. We got this amazing thing called cable TV around 1972 or so. That meant all the channels on the VHF dial, 2-13 were usable--talk about ancient technology!
We got channels 17, 29, and 48 from Phila. and watched Dr. Shock on Sat. all thru the 70s.
But as I recall, many of the movies were pretty lame: The Man Who Could Cheat Death and Inner Sanctum movies played endlessly!
It seemed they refused to show the orig. Frankenstein, Dracula, etc. Still good times tho!
I lived in New Jersey (still do) and we got all the those stations too--WPHL 17, WTAF 29 and WKBS 48.
We had a rotary antenna and additionally, lived high on a big hill, and the high altitude gave us great reception to begin with, so it was TV heaven, and as clear as a bell!
A lot of people are suprised that we got NY programming AND UHF from New Jersey, but yeah we did and I remember Dr. Shock very well! I also remember the tribute they did when he passed away in 1977.
I lived at 24th and Federal Street in South Philly and used to LOVE Dr. Shock! It's a pity that with all of the modern technology there is nothing like this on television today. Be Well fellow Philadelphian and Dr Shock Fan :)
At last! All this talk of this "Dr. Shock," and here he is with the opening to his show!!!
I had read about Dr. S. elsewhere on the Web (and seen a few old school photos with him and his little girl Bubbles). But I can't believe what I just here---I'm kinda shaking.
Hey I lived in Northern NJ back in the Mid-Late 1970's and watched this Show On Cable WPHL-17 along with WWF Wrestling on Saturday Afternoons....Loved Dr. Shock and the films he showed. Cried a lot when I heard of his passing but had a happy ending when I met his Daughter Bubbles at a Horror Sci-Fi Con in the 1990's and kissed her and told her how much I loved her Dad and his Show....You Are Loved Dr. Shock !!!
Man i remember in 1978 he did a Grand Opening at a Bank on the White Horse Pike in Audubon NJ and I got to meet him there, many GREAT memories!! Thanks for posting.
Going way back, his show used to be on Ch 17 at 8pm Saturday night. My brother & I made a wax foot and sent it o him and he had it displayed on his counter. I remember goingt to the King of Prussia Plaza around 1970, and meeting him. Then in 1975 I saw him sitting next to me at a barber shop in Roxborough..He was a great guy!!
I watched him too, as a child growing up in south Philly, durign th 1970s. I saw Bubbles speak at a local convention a few years ago, monster con, in Cherry Hill, NJ. She was very proud of her late father's career, he opened me to decades of horror and sci-fi fun.
You are THE best!! Thanks for posting this. I used to watch Dr. Shock every week...even when he brought on with his little daughter "Bubbles"??? Thanks so much!
WOW! Where did you get this??? Please post more! I grew up in Philly and I used to watch this every Sat afternoon. This intro used to scare the crap out of me when I was 9 years old!
Those were the days. I also remember the Batman/Three Stooges hour on Channel 29. They don't make shows like this anymore. Fuck's sake,i even miss the Steel Pier Show. Oh,to be a Philly child.
I always wanted that painting!! I owe so much to this great horror host legend! Were it not for all those Saturdays and the great HAMMER and Universal films, I might have never known the true meaning of a classic horror flick. Thanks for posting this.
I was about 6 or 7 when I started watching Dr. Shock and I remember being scared of the weird intros too lol. My favorite movies were "The Screaming Skull", "Colossal Man" and "The Incredible Shrinking Man." Great memories! Thanks for sharing :)
I agree, GREAT MEMORIES of Philly. I used to love Saturday afternoons, just sitting in front of the tube and watching Dr Shock. THANKS FOR POSTING, and if you ever get some of the movies that would be awesome!!!
Awesome as hell! I looked all over for these clips for years and now I finally found them. These intros used to scare the shit out of me as a kid. The "demonic" or Mr. Hyde" face and rat crawling on the corpse. RIP Dr. Shock! Saturday afternoons in Philadelphia on Channel 17 were well entertaining in the 70's! They don't make TV like this anymore, entertaining! Thanks for the haunting memories! You Rock!
A weekly highlight of my mid teens in Wilkes-Barre! Thx!

@themaskdr This is incorrect.Bubbles claims to have video of the original shows and is looking to have them remastered to put them for sale.
There is a very nice Dr Shock tribute page on Facebook that Doreen (Bubbles) is a part of as well as Dr Shocks brother.

I sincerely hope that something becomes of the masters.
I constantly entertain the idea of having my children watch the show around Halloween.
