Nah, that was my cousin commenting. He has the same gear though. I'm currently debating on which amp to get. I'm lookin' at a Peavey 6505+ 1x12 Combo, the Line 6 POD X3 Live, and a Bugera 6262 half stack.
@DeathMetalAngel123 Before I saw the B-52 live the only real amp I've wanted to get was Marshall..but man..with how fucking crisp a solid state can be (AKA the amp used here) I want it badly. Hear me out, how awesome do you think a King V with Seymour Duncan JBs, 10/11 gauge strings (lowest for standard tuning) hooked up to a B-52 would be?
@KissMeImPunk I thought this one was tube? That's what is says on the internet. It would sound pretty awesome with that set-up you mentioned though. I got an Epiphone LP Standard with a set of DiMarzio D-Activator X pickups (DP221 and DP222).
@DeathMetalAngel123 I'm confused, I thought the amp used in this video was solid state because it sounded crispy. Do you know what 10/11 gauge string brands would work best for Seymour Duncan JBs?
@DeathMetalAngel123 You should give them a shot. The passive pickups actually make you sound dirtier compared to their active counterparts or the EMGs, which give off a "brighter" distortion
every guitar tube amplifier need a power rectifier to keep the dynamic range of the signal due to low grade power transformers hig class transformers are only found in hi-fi amplifiers... but not for guitar purposes.... so this amp has 3 kinds of rectification... diode (solid state) diode tube ( half and half, and full tube power rectification... (just like mesa triple recto) this way you can get 3 kinds of dynamics for your sound. tube is more warm.. and solid is very crisp and tight.
I own this amp with a Peavey ValveKing 4x12 cab and I can dial in ANY tone with this...Anything from classics to neo-classical. So versatile...Put the Treble and Bass at 3'oclock and mids at 9'oclock and gain dimed and you've got it, really close to Metallica's tone. And something you guys might wanna perk your ears up, I've read that this amp has almost the exact same schematics as the Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier! Try em both out in Guitar Center and find out! They're exact to me!
after almost 2 years of playing with it... one tube went crap... apparently what my tech guy said s that every amp brand usually put in the crappiest tubes as "stock" sovteks or whatever.. but they put usually B-stock tubes ... or tubes wich have not been burned in... even mesa and marshall... so i guess i got lucky it didn't blew earlier.. well it not blew up ... the 1st tube got microphonic... so i hope 100 dlls later my amp will be the same it used to... saludos desde mexicooo!!!
I bought my B-52 2X12 used on ebay and it had sovtek pre-amp and power amp tubes in it,are they stock?I replaced the power tubes with JJ/TESLA's(for more gain)and will be replacing the power tubes with JJ's or maybe Mullards for more tone.Everybody says the b-52's are crap but I've mine and used for awhile so I don't know if it's some amps or some players, nice playing man..
most people are use to modeling amps now so they dont know how to use a real amp to customize their own sounds. so they go rate the amp as crap i love mine, i have the at100 head with a stealth b52 cab 2x12 with celestian vintage 30's most amazing amp i've ever owned. i've played the jcm's from marshall and they suck in comparison.
it's a trimode rectifier it's tube and solid state, but it is all tube amp, but has a rectifier int he back to switch between tube a , tube ab, and solid state.
no t,here's a switch on the fact that changes the rectifier tubes' characteristics to either class a, ab, or solid state. A would be the most saggy vintage sound, ab slightly more tight and solid state rectifiers are tighter which suit a more modern or metal context. Its an all tube mode but its rectifier tube has 3 modes on it.
and the cab is one of the best for the money. it switches between 4 and 16 ohms and does 8 ohms in stereo. 13 ply baltic birch and 4-12 inch, 120 watt speakers (480 watts all together) closed back, never seen so much bass response in a guitar cab. enough power to shake the windows... i love mine
Distortion good for Metallica tone? I'm looking to try out this head soon and right now the cabinet im using is a Marshall MG412 cabinet so I don't know if thats a good cabinet for this head so if not i'll be selling the head and cabinet lol (don't get me wrong if your looking to get the Marshall MG100HDFX w/ the MG412 cab then go for it it's a great amp just the distortion isn't enough for my style of playing). Since this guy doesn't reply someone who owns this amp please reply!!!!
The only way to get the metallica tone, is to buy the equipment they use (both guitars and amps) and master their playing style/picking. For example to get Hetfield's tone you need to have a gibson - esp type guitar (not strat-style) with EMGs 81/60, be able to play like him (downstrokes, etc) and most important of all get his amps. His main amps are: Diezel VH4s for the crunch/distortion, and Roland JC120H for the cleans. And even if you can afford all that, you still need his sound technician!
OR....you can buy the new "Metallica in can" and have them tell you exactly what they use.Yes even you can learn how to play like metallica with Metallica as your teacher! Hurry now before they expire!
Disclaimer: Lars is sold separately, but you can still buy him in our best selling product "Assorted Assholes"
B-52 makes many inexpensive amps, but their tone is just KILLER, and is real tube sound. The amps run on par or cheaper than Line 6 but you get the real deal.
Thanks for posting this, it just shows the true beauty of this amp.
you can get pretty close man the amp is sick, this was the first stack i bought and i searched around for quite some time. i had to get something versitile cuz i play everything. it has awsome gain awsome clean and all around awsome tone
tell me wut ur using for pedals and pickups because i hav this exact amp, and it sounds nowhere close to this even with the boss medal zone and dimebag darell signature pickups in my gibson
First of all, get rid of the shitty Metal Zone. Next, get rid of the Dimebucker. YOu might think they are "upgrades" but they hurt your tone. Get an EQ pedal or OD pedal. IT will tighten up your tone and make it sound much better.
that pickup killed the sound. i use a metal zone on my mesa dual rec. when playing in the house and its mainly for boosting purposes. the drive is set at around 8 o'clock. but then again, mine has a keeley mod ^.^
lol, gear n00b. first off, the seymour duncan dimebucker is crap, second, metal zone should never be used on an amp that has this good of distortion. dial in a good setting, use the amp's distortion, trade in the metal zone for a maxon OD pedal to tighten up the sound a bit, and put back in the original pickup into your gibson.
What ohm setting are you running to your cab? I just got this head and I have a 5150 4x12 with a 16ohm rating. I wonder if running the amp at 8ohms produces a better sound than at 16ohms
No, the rest of the world hates us because of ignorant people who think we are better than everybody else and that it's our "job" to "fix" other countries.
yeah in actuality the amp does have some pretty sweet deep tones, but you should really test one out and not trust a video of how something sounds lol
Cool demo, man. I got one of these suckers last year. I love the bastard to death. What I liked is how you stay true to the actual tone of the amp itself without adding extra bullshit like a delay pedal or compression. That to me is a perfect demo; When everything is recorded/filmed bare bones. My only complaint is with your amp settings you filmed, play some metal songs man! Led Zep riffs will throw off the listener. Play a Megadeth riff or Nevermore to get this amp's intentions.
I just got this amp kinda recently, and been liking it a lot! Although mine seems to be having the same hiss problem as yours. I made a new video in which I'm using it, it's called "Fender Strat with Heavy Distortion 2."
again that was the first time i played with this amp, i'm in the process of making a couple more vids with clean and overdriven sounds, i cant get a pretty good srv, a pretty decent ac dc tone, a good hendrix tone , a beautiful clean santeria-type clean sound, but still i haven't been able to get a good sound with any effects at all!! somebody help meeee. and thanx for posting so much in my first video!
when you say that, do you mean you cant get it to sound good with the built in effects, or with effects pedals? If its the second one, then I guess it would be a good amp for me because I dont really use effects pedals :) also, i noticed theres a lot of feedback in the video. does the amp actually make lots of noise like that, or is that from something else like your camera or guitar?
i meant that it doesn't sound good with effect pedals , the built in reverb is ok .
there is a lot of feedback because at that moment i didn't noticed it had a ground lift switch and also , usually high gain tube amps always make a lot of feedback and static, but come on , electronic vacuum valves are like a 100 years old technology and they haven't change much so it's understandable .
True it's not a Mesa but it competes.I use this in my band. Our other guitarist switches between and single recto and a .50 cal.We have 2 great sounds. The 4 way f/s is great.I put an EQ thu the fx loop for a lead boost and just use the fx switch on the footswitch which gives me 2 distortions, clean, reverb, and a boost all on 1 f/s.If I use my RG with coil switching EMGs,I can get anything from metal tones to spongey rock & roll dist (think GnR) to a bright strat tone w/out touching the amp.
hmm, i have a ns-2 in the front of mine as well, but it still likes to do it, i dont know why, other amps i have played dont do it, but i have never got to turn those up very loud.
also check if your electric connection is properly grounded ,that helps a lot , before my house had proper ground i always listened to anybody who was using a fucking power drill around the block ,through my amp !!.
i'd check out the quality of all my cabling... that sounds like a crappy cable issue.. and also check your tubes for microphonics.. tap on each tube with a pencil while the amp is on and in the proper matching channels for those tubes.. this includes all the preamp tubes.. one of the preamp tubes drives the effects loop circuit so you may need to switch that on to check that one for microphonics. listen carefully.
why would that be the amp's fault? what kind of guitar are you playing it's probably the springs in the back of it ringing out. try muting them with a daddario string bag wrapped around them loosely and taped closed.
no it has to be the amp, i have seen about 6 differnet vids on youtube alone and everyone does it, and everyone i have played live does it too, it is the amp, i just dont know what it is doing?
i'm telling you it's the springs in the back of your guitar. even if it isn't... it's DEFINETLY not the amp making your strings move... that's plain stupid. check your reverb to make sure it's not plugged up backwards or defective. turn the reverb knob all the way down and check the FX loop volume as well.
learn how to mute your strings then. in order for strings to ring out they have to be moving... that is how sound is created.. the strings are moving... how do you think an e-bow works or the fernandes sustainer or the sustainiac? the amp is not going to make your strings ring out. if your guitar has a floyd rose or strat-style bridge with springs then that ringing out sound is most likely the springs.
thanks , yeah it's just great , built like a rock and cheap just because it's a new brand but the thing is ,that you can't compare it to a mesa or a marshall because it has it's own sound . now you can say that amp sounds just like a b 52 .
yup , pure tube overdrive, gain2 mode and contour switch at 12 o'clock , no effects , actually that's it's only con. effect units or pedals don't sound that good in this amp.
actually, i use a VOX wah and an ibanez ts-9 with mine, and i think they sound pretty good through my b-52 (combo). i use a bit less gain than you did, though, still get a lot of the tube sound, basically use the ts-9 to boost my strat's neck pickup a bit.
just briefly, wat can u tell me about the amp sound, like would i use the whole amp most of the time, or just 1 disortion/overdrive or wat??? im just curious about this amp, and am not so sure about the quality, wat do u think?
ok , it's a little early for me to start making statements about this amp but i'm starting to get an idea.first , it is an modern sound amp, high gain everything sounds highly distorted, i mean , it sure sound warm and it's totally tube sound, but if you want this amp to sound like your favorite rock bands, you are lost, cause this thing has it;s own sound. you could try to emulate guitar tones using pedals but you will be taking away all the meaning .
just curious. running this through any pedals or processors? or is this direct in? cuz i cant get my at-100 to sound that gainy.

I have this same amp...Sounds just like my tone...I bought a boss noise suppressor for 100 bucks or so...Took care of the hissing problem real quick!
Brad0451 4 years ago
I was wondering, can these things get a good modern metal tone without effects?
takenoprisoners90 4 years ago
effect pedals -_- sorry
takenoprisoners90 4 years ago
of course , you just , turn the contour knob counter clockwise and turn up the low res knob
himcky2k 4 years ago
I just got this amp kinda recently, and been liking it a lot! Although mine seems to be having the same hiss problem as yours. I made a new video in which I'm using it, it's called "Fender Strat with Heavy Distortion 2."
finkster 4 years ago
What can it do along the lines of Clapton, if you have a strat that is.

what kind of guitar are you using

Can this amp do a more mild overdrive type sound, like for blues or classic rock? Or are clean and super heavy the only options?
finkster 4 years ago
again that was the first time i played with this amp, i'm in the process of making a couple more vids with clean and overdriven sounds, i cant get a pretty good srv, a pretty decent ac dc tone, a good hendrix tone , a beautiful clean santeria-type clean sound, but still i haven't been able to get a good sound with any effects at all!! somebody help meeee. and thanx for posting so much in my first video!
himcky2k 4 years ago
when you say that, do you mean you cant get it to sound good with the built in effects, or with effects pedals? If its the second one, then I guess it would be a good amp for me because I dont really use effects pedals :) also, i noticed theres a lot of feedback in the video. does the amp actually make lots of noise like that, or is that from something else like your camera or guitar?
finkster 4 years ago
i meant that it doesn't sound good with effect pedals , the built in reverb is ok .
there is a lot of feedback because at that moment i didn't noticed it had a ground lift switch and also , usually high gain tube amps always make a lot of feedback and static, but come on , electronic vacuum valves are like a 100 years old technology and they haven't change much so it's understandable .
himcky2k 4 years ago
uhh, why do you repeat the same fuckin' riff like 234234234 times. WHY?! hahahaha
jk; man; really though; that looks like a nice ass amp--thinkin' bout gettin' me one! It's like a poor man's mesa!! haha!

que bien suena ese ampli

its no mesa
but it sounds worth the price tag
aberzombie11 4 years ago
True it's not a Mesa but it competes.I use this in my band. Our other guitarist switches between and single recto and a .50 cal.We have 2 great sounds. The 4 way f/s is great.I put an EQ thu the fx loop for a lead boost and just use the fx switch on the footswitch which gives me 2 distortions, clean, reverb, and a boost all on 1 f/s.If I use my RG with coil switching EMGs,I can get anything from metal tones to spongey rock & roll dist (think GnR) to a bright strat tone w/out touching the amp.

another downfall with this amp, is when using high gain, it always has this ringing noise, still a great amp.
AntarcticChuckBeaver 4 years ago
yes, it's true, but that is very normal with any high gain amp . I plugged a noise gate in front and it's ok now.
himcky2k 4 years ago
hmm, i have a ns-2 in the front of mine as well, but it still likes to do it, i dont know why, other amps i have played dont do it, but i have never got to turn those up very loud.
schecterc1lh 4 years ago
also check if your electric connection is properly grounded ,that helps a lot , before my house had proper ground i always listened to anybody who was using a fucking power drill around the block ,through my amp !!.
all of that ended with the holy ground.
himcky2k 4 years ago
haha i dont know how good my house is about that, but i know alot of peoples amps do it.
schecterc1lh 4 years ago
i'd check out the quality of all my cabling... that sounds like a crappy cable issue.. and also check your tubes for microphonics.. tap on each tube with a pencil while the amp is on and in the proper matching channels for those tubes.. this includes all the preamp tubes.. one of the preamp tubes drives the effects loop circuit so you may need to switch that on to check that one for microphonics. listen carefully.
mikeymike4g63 4 years ago
ya i was thinking about the tube thing, i know its not the cables, but anyways, every b-52 that i have played does it.
AntarcticChuckBeaver 4 years ago
is it a squeal? if it squeals it's the cables.
mikeymike4g63 4 years ago
well, it is more like a ring of the notes that arent being played, such as i am playing the top string, the bottom strings want to ring
AntarcticChuckBeaver 4 years ago
why would that be the amp's fault? what kind of guitar are you playing it's probably the springs in the back of it ringing out. try muting them with a daddario string bag wrapped around them loosely and taped closed.
mikeymike4g63 4 years ago
no it has to be the amp, i have seen about 6 differnet vids on youtube alone and everyone does it, and everyone i have played live does it too, it is the amp, i just dont know what it is doing?
AntarcticChuckBeaver 4 years ago
no its a ringing.
AntarcticChuckBeaver 4 years ago
i'm telling you it's the springs in the back of your guitar. even if it isn't... it's DEFINETLY not the amp making your strings move... that's plain stupid. check your reverb to make sure it's not plugged up backwards or defective. turn the reverb knob all the way down and check the FX loop volume as well.
mikeymike4g63 4 years ago
by backwards i mean the cables inside the head going to the reverb tank.
mikeymike4g63 4 years ago
i never said it was making my strings move, i said it was making them RING OUT!
AntarcticChuckBeaver 4 years ago
learn how to mute your strings then. in order for strings to ring out they have to be moving... that is how sound is created.. the strings are moving... how do you think an e-bow works or the fernandes sustainer or the sustainiac? the amp is not going to make your strings ring out. if your guitar has a floyd rose or strat-style bridge with springs then that ringing out sound is most likely the springs.
mikeymike4g63 4 years ago
do you even have the amp???? chances are you have no idea what is going on.
AntarcticChuckBeaver 4 years ago
dude you're telling me it's making your strings ring out.... that's retarded.
mikeymike4g63 4 years ago
if you look back, the person who posted this video even agrees with me, your retarded.

I have the B-52 ST-100A and it kicks ass to. I run it with old randall cabs and it kills!!!
immortalgram 4 years ago
This amp sounds amazing! I must get one. Great playing also
darmek2001 4 years ago
thanks , yeah it's just great , built like a rock and cheap just because it's a new brand but the thing is ,that you can't compare it to a mesa or a marshall because it has it's own sound . now you can say that amp sounds just like a b 52 .
himcky2k 4 years ago
That is the amp overdrive right? Were you using any effects??
darmek2001 4 years ago
yup , pure tube overdrive, gain2 mode and contour switch at 12 o'clock , no effects , actually that's it's only con. effect units or pedals don't sound that good in this amp.
himcky2k 4 years ago
actually, i use a VOX wah and an ibanez ts-9 with mine, and i think they sound pretty good through my b-52 (combo). i use a bit less gain than you did, though, still get a lot of the tube sound, basically use the ts-9 to boost my strat's neck pickup a bit.
777wanabe 4 years ago
just briefly, wat can u tell me about the amp sound, like would i use the whole amp most of the time, or just 1 disortion/overdrive or wat??? im just curious about this amp, and am not so sure about the quality, wat do u think?
xgnr55x 4 years ago
ok , it's a little early for me to start making statements about this amp but i'm starting to get an idea.first , it is an modern sound amp, high gain everything sounds highly distorted, i mean , it sure sound warm and it's totally tube sound, but if you want this amp to sound like your favorite rock bands, you are lost, cause this thing has it;s own sound. you could try to emulate guitar tones using pedals but you will be taking away all the meaning .
