Fun, isn't it? As a driver, I seldom was able to drive with the hatch open... much nicer with a wide view like that. @Jonesm16 ; It's a squeeze getting in or out without the main gun pretty much full forward. If it's to the rear, one usually gets in from inside of the turret, not the hatch.
Nice tanks to drive compared to the M60 series, but those are fun too.
in all the external shots i have seen it looks like the driver would be to far under the turret when it rotates to have his hatch up or even get in and out.
i was a tank loader with the 364 tank division in pakistan in 1999. by 2004 i was promoted to gunner and my best friend was tank commander. i stayed as gunner till '06 then we hit a mine, i was lucky. it's a fuckin hell of a fight trying to get out of a burning, mangled tank. our main hatches were mangled so i had to try to escape out of the .30mm hatch. i as the only survivor. i still have nightmares.
When my dad was 19k, he started at loading, then when he was PFC he was promoted to gunner. Don't ask me why, it was because he was an overachiever, good marksman and had excellence in armor.
Thats not true in all cases. I was a tanker with US 1st Armored Division. I was thrown in the driver's hole as my first role as part of a crew. I drove M1A2 SEP v2tanks for three years. I did my time in the loaders hatch and gunners seat but i was mainly a driver during my time. Damn good tank

counterkilla92893 2 years ago
Semper Fi is short for Semper Fidelis, the Marine Corps creed. It is latin for -always faithful-

Awesome video, dude! I'm thinking about joining up and I want to be a tank driver - do you have any advice for me?
calicostudio 3 years ago
You can't simply be a tank driver. You gotta be a loader first then work up you're ranks.
TacticalDude2 2 years ago
actually driver is a low position youll most likely be a driver first or loader then work your way to gunner then eventually tank commander
