Oh my goodness, I like it better like this, not that I didn't enjoy the original version, but this one sound much more sophisticated. I thought it would be worse in a lower key, but I guess I was wrong :P
Wow, this is beautiful! She sounds much more like the singers in the musical-version: more mature... but I prefer the higher version for Johanna's character, though :)
I find this a lot moreprittier, but then again, she is suppose to be 16 years old, and if a girl sang like this when she was 16, thad be just... not right XDD
but it IS very beautiful!!! I always tought it was way too high when ever I listen to the song ^^
The movie was in F major, this is lowered in E- flat major. In the 1979 production with George Hearn and Angela Lansbury, that Johanna sang it in G major, a whole step above the movie one.
I have the original 1979 Sweeney Todd sheet music book, and this song is actually written a whole step lower than even THIS version. This is really the way it should be.
I prefer the original but this ones good too, it shows people that you can still sing it well even if you can't sing as high as she does in the film :)
O= This is really wisener singing? Doesn't sound the same. Her actual voice is more...mature... As opposed to the screen's Soprano take shpuld they be one and the same.
i think this actually makes her voice sound prettier.. not to say she doesn't sound good in the original. she has an amazing voice but i find, when i sing certain songs, when the pitch is lowered it allows more of the voice to be shown off. and more emotion. :)
Well, when it comes to actually singing a song, any song can be sung anyway you want--you just need to go through the song and have the score arranged in your key.
Changing the pitch only effects how one praticular person sounds. Changing the key would make it possible to actually sing it the way you, or any other person, would.
She sounds more like an adult with the pitch change. More like what I imagined Lucy to sound like. She does magnificent for being Irish/Scottish/Something along that line.
She's going to be Alice?! Wow, I didn't know that.
rosannagabrielle: I've heard Jayne's been one of the top picks for Alice, but I've also heard nothing's set in stone yet. I do hope she is chosen, though.
The original is much better, in my opinion, much better. She and Anthony are SO perfect together. This is such a beautiful song though, and she's such a sad character.
Much more realistic. Sweeney Todd is a very stylized picture and in some instances it was taken a tad far.
I also felt the pitch of this song was too high and needed to be opened up. This key signature was probably what it was originally sung in and then just digitally raised.
Lovely, but honestly I really prefer the version done in the movie because it truly captures her personality. She sounds so strong as a woman here. She is frail and this song doesn not show that well. And it sounds strangely pitchy. Also the transitions were far more noteable here. You can easily tell when the portions of the song split. Interesting idea.
i love this version. she's a good singer in the original version but at least this version i can sing without cracking.
