this is .....(well i have no words)......played with so much emotions and feelings....and what i liked the most is that rise and fall in playing like that of a river....no extra hitting noise of right hands.....AMAZING !!!!!!
Music is not Math. There's definitely a method to playing guitar, but what it really comes down to, I believe, is feeling. And this man plays with a lot of feeling. I catch it every time.
Spellbinding. I tried to listen to it "in the background" while working and couldn't. And kudos for the bare feet and natural but unorthodox hold! The man is in symbiosis with his guitar.
Great Michael!! I saw the video where that silly old niny tried to make you feel bad. Well, Segovia never produced anything. He never wrote anything. He's probably the most overrated of guitarists. I've seen him in concert and he makes A LOT of noise with his left hand (the result of poor left hand technique, believe or not). The truth of the matter is that the old man had his own preferences and could not stand anyone playing his own writing of music. You, Michael, are a great guitarist!
@inglesdeconversacion I totally agree mate. Segovia did a great deal to bring classical guitar to popularity, and there's no doubt he was a great player. However, to be honest I've saw alot of better players here on youtube. This performance is fantastic in the way it's delivered - lots of feeling, and played by a down-to-earth guy that just loves to play guitar just like the majoriy of us. Personally I prefer MC to segovia any day.
I guess forums like this invite commentary from "experts" who enhance their self esteem by waxing ignorant on "shortcomings" in such rare talent. That Michael has developed from that college-aged "Master Class Student guitarist" into a University music Professor, master guitarist & songwriter, yet remains accessible for small venues of "regular folks" around the country is testimony to his true artistic spirit. That he chooses to perform as his heart leads him, even barefoot, is art - not flaw
Well, Segovia put down many good players. His ability and musical genius definitely pushed him into being a music snob. Segovia was known to be about as nice as Buddy Rich at times...
My tastes are not nearly refined or picky as a master like Segovia and I HIGHLY suspect the same for most people.
@Itheprosperone I agree. I wouldn't call them a snob, but they have to get used to his philosophy that music is music. It's an aquired taste that many people don't share in this time period. It's very Baroque-ish haha. I will only say this for Michael Chapdelaine though because he can really pull that stuff off.
Interpretation is always subjective...He hurries up through the second part which is meant to be " meno mosso", but on the whole this is a very good, musical performance..
Sorry, but seeing the Segovia transcription against what we does, all the difficult parts (like the beginning of the piece) are done in the easy way, that is why in the Segovia Master Class he was kicked out while playing Segovia´s transcription of Mallorca. Sorry but this is what I think, better to focus than to play everything "more or less"
I completely agree with you piba, but I think that we must remember that there are many transcriptions of this piece, personally I will always prefer, as you do, the Segovia´s one, but still, the melody remains the same and the capacities of each guitarrist varies, for example, personally I dont like Amaros transcritpions and I dont like his playing also, but that doesnt necessarily means that he is not a good guitarist. ;)
I've heard this song by otherr artists and this one doesnt have as much feeling and interpretation. I think being kicked out of a master class by Segovia really affected this man.
Fantastic, long time since I heard such beautiful guitar playing!

great interpretation for a piece that is easy to play, but very difficult to express... which usually goes hand in hand

shein30- I DO care that he is NOT naked. Sounds great. I have a lesson with Michael in a couple of weeks. I am really looking forward to it.

i think that it's more important that it was a very good interpretation, i don't care if he is even naked.

Well played. Anyone that thinks this is "poorly" played is simply a snob and cannot close their eyes and simply enjoy the music.

I think he is a good guitar player, but I did not like the way this piece of music was played by him. He lost what makes this piece move people.
