juan croucier once said back in the day that he tried to introduce "Lack of Communication" to dokken before it came a Ratt staple, but George Lynch said he didn't think the song would challenge him.
Exactly, Dokken may have technically had a better singer and a guitarist who was no less impressive than Warren but RATT just had more chutzpah and are definitely more timeless.
Ratt are my favourite band of any genre. Not just pop metal. ;)
Ratt are a great band if not as excellent as Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Queen or Mr. Bungle for sheer mind-blowing versatility, vocal range and lyrical depth.
Don't know about it being an "excellent solo", but it is more than I would expect from a hair metal bassist (not many had a loud voice at all). It was pretty good; I'm more into the bass. The chrome pickguard equipped P-Bass looks damn good, much like it did when Phil Lynott (who was a bass God and is much better than this guy) played it lol.
True. I'd say given the overall standards of bass playing, Juan is 7/10.
Juan was the most memorable of the pop metal bassists which says something in a band where you have two electric guitarists (i.e. not Motley Crue or Poison).
I'd say Jason Newstead and Frank Bello are 8/10. Cliff Burton and Steve Harris are 9/10. Les Claypool and Billy Sheehan are 10/10.
@JosephKuby well, 80s metal was primarily guitar driven. rhythm sections didn't have much to do. back in the day bass players were more songwriters than technicians. as the years have gone by. the rythm sections have gotten progressively better. much better infact. and on the other hand general lead guitar standards have dropped to the point where the guitar has now become a percussive instrument.. apart from a few exceptions, guitar playing nowdays is a one or two note make-and-chug routine
Ratt are a better band than people give them credit for.
I'd say Ratt were superior to the entirety of the L.A. metal scene (with the exception of Van Halen of course), beating the likes of Poison and Warrant as well as besting the likes of Motley Crue and W.A.S.P.
@JosephKuby but hey Warrant were actually really really good, like technically on the guitar Joey allen was really great and Jani Lane was such an amazing talent live, with such great stage presence. But I do agree Ratt was the best. I personally like them more than Van Halen, but that's just me though
FUckin love Juan! Ratt and Dokken are rokken!

In other words, Ratt are a great band (9/10) versus Dokken's 8/10. ;)

Notice how the beginning of the bass solo resembles It Doesn't Matter off Ratt's Dancing Undercover album.
Given the overall standards of bass playing, I'd give him a 7. One number below Jason Newsted, two below Cliff and three below Claypool and Sheehan.
