I don't know if people realize that the USA is one of the only countries in the world that tries to avoid civilian casualties when on the field of battle. Were we to unleash our full power and stop at nothing to kill all the Taliban, there would be mass destruction.
Many of our soldiers die because they are being careful not to kill civilians. This is not the case with the insurgents, who, as this video shows, use civilians as shields and dishonor their deaths.

Take shipping lanes for instance, if we all minded our own business then the US merchant marine, which is highly reliable but expensive would gain business.
