Nice to see the old girl out, two famous locomotives, shame she isnt in steam though, to say she's the fastest steam locomotive in the world, she's stuffed and mounted. One day she might steam again

It is excellent that Mallard will remain just as she is for hundreds of years to come, to maintain her originality. There are three other A4s in this country all on the mainline or being overhauled for the mainline. We don't need a fourth.

@BIASpotter True. The people at the NRM I spoke to argue that a full overhaul is fine on 4472, because the percentage of 'original' parts from the original engine is low. However, on Mallard, the percentage of original parts, according to them, is very high, so to overhaul it would be 'sacrificing authenticity'. My answer to them is that it is not authentic for her NOT to have an overhaul and be kept in steamable condition. Not sure they agreed.
