Of course divine inspiration exists outside of Holy Scripture but the best way to test if something actually comes from the Spirit is to see if it is on par with what is in Scripture. I have found many of the doctrines and dogmas of the romanish church to be contrary to what is taught in the Bible, therefore it is safe to conclude that they are not of the Holy Ghost.

And if we put the verse in to context it shows why Jesus picked Peter in the first place- Because of his realisation courage and faith.

It is not a crazy story. Brigham Young was good friends with Pierre-Jean De Smet. It is a known fact that De Smet (who controlled the native tribes) offered Young safe passage and many other things. There may be many churches but most protestants can generally be traced back to no more than 3 traditions the "Reformed Faith" [Lutherans and Calvinists], Baptists [Radical Reformation], and the Anglican Communion.
