@RollingStone000 for example - the rapper comes out, so the bass player takes a feature right over the top of him? Why? Did the song call for that? NO. I couldn't hear a thing the guy was saying ..hell even he looked confused..

Bottom line - there's a very big difference between being a hot player and being a good musician. The two things are not necessarily related.

But I get it - saying anything negative makes me a hater right?

It's just my opinion. I felt it so I expressed it :)

@moodydan72 been playing bass for more than 20 years and seriously - I can't stand these kind of bass players. Too many strings, not enough pocket.

These guys are all about showing their chops (masturbation) when they should be all about the song.

@yourmanwatson Except he's playing right in the pocket, and if anything the band's technical abilities are helping mask Estelle's moderately okay vocals and the rhymes being spit were feeling weak anyways, with the backing band it has so much more force behind it. But really I think it overall makes for a great package, Estelle isn't the strongest singer I heard but with that band she sounds very good.

@BasketClash ..yeah I'll accept that.. they might be covering up a bit. I guess I was just looking at it like some singers need the space in the music to hear the quality of their voice. I mean she's not someone with a huge range or really acrobatic lines so it's just the tonal quality of her voice that makes it sound good. For me that wasn't coming through.

And as a musician - I'm not finding their pocket to be anything exceptional. Not that I'm saying I'm better of course..
