@Wednesday13Lost well actually, while you are right that it is short for emotional, that is not what it refers to. emo refers to a music style that began in the mid 80's bu bands such as Rites of Spring. Nevertheless...you are correct for half. A band themself cannot be classified as emo, the songs however can, and alot of early MCR would indeed fall into that category.
