They were only the Young Dynomos for a short time. Yes, I do remember the Petworth band but rarely went to see them. If they were on the venue with TF that's the only way I would go see them.
MaryHarley40 you would remember Petworth correct? I was a kid but but no one I mention that too has ever heard or them or think Im talking about the neighborhood. Petworth and TF was like the premier bands back then, of course behind Chuck. I can not remember RE being Young Dynomos though. I grew up uptown - Georgia ave and Morton St "640 Lorton Morton" so the Black Hole was just around the corner. $5.00 to see 5 bands.
UP JUMP THE MONKEY! UP JUMP THE MONKEY! UP JUMP THE MONKEY FROM THE COCONUT GROVE HE DID THE WHOP! HE DID THE WHOP! They also did: I'M TALKING ABOUT THE FREAKBODY FREAKBODY THEY MAKE YOU BOOGIE A GET DOWN! DO IT YALL OW GET IT NOW! Old school gogo head!
I remember them, Mass Extinction, The Class Band, and the Pump Blenders. You don't find them on YouTube so it's hard to let people appreciate the level of creativity of the 1980's era of music
This takes we way back. My brother was "Big Horn" remember him? Do you remember the originals? White boy, Funk, Foots, Lil Benny, Jungle Boogie, David Green (Timbale's) The original name was not Rare Essence, do you remember the original name? Just a little trivia, curious to know who remembers accept me and the originals. I'm in So. CA and I have only met a few true D.C. natives. Many people want to say they're from D.C. but I'm from South East..Southern Ave. near Eastover shopping Center.

Good video that represents go-go music in its purest form before it got watered down and destroyed by Hip-Hop and Rap.
