on paper these ideas are sound, but when you factor in the variety of femur, tibia, etc. lengths the whole thing goes out the window. thats why biopace was such a bad idea, one pedal stroke deficiency is not the same for all people. it also is not a hoax, the black section of the arm moves in relation to its position. on the other hand, thats a mechanical nightmare waiting to happen.
Actually oval chainrings are used by many pro's like the Specialized MTB team and Cervelo Test Team. Some had them on their bikes on Tour de France this year too...
Wow, this is so clearly a hoax. The video is stretched horizontally so when the cranks are horizontal they appear longer. Note that they also appear skinnier. When the cranks are vertical, they appear shorter, but only because the video is stretched, also making them appear wider. Metal doesn't morph like that.
This would be super easy to spot with a round chainring - it would be stretched, too. The oval chainring makes it harder to pick up on the stretching.
Nope, if you look closely you can see that the cranks are longer when in front of the BB but shorter when behind the BB.
Combining these cranks with Biopace has to be the worst idea I've ever seen, it's guaranteed to make you so screwed up on any other bike. What happened to things being round?
No, what's visible in front of the BB appears longer and what's visible behind the BB appears shorter, but consider that directly behind the BB is more of the crank that's not visible from the other side.
Still clearly a hoax.
And really, has anyone beyond this page ever talked about these cranks? Have you seen press about them or seen them in your LBS or on a real bike? Of course not; they don't exist.
I wouldn't buy it until it was 800 grams or less. Carbon Compact cranks are simply the best! If you are pushing around more weight it just AINT an improvement in effieciency!
We don't have measured or evaluated yet the influence of our crankset on running performances. We hope to doing it in a near future with multi-sports athletes.
The biomechanical aspects of both products are quite different. Our crankset improved the wheel power by generating more torque (mostly in the power phase) while the Powercranks help to improved the upstroke/recovery phase.
I agree about the feet speed variation over a complete rotation. But, the combination with oval chainrings creates a ergonomic, smooth and efficient movement. Like with a conventional crankset, a progressive training with a proper bike fit is very important.

Schwinn came out with cranks like this in the 1980's
It was called a "Bio-Crank"
The variation was not as extreme but it was the exact same concept.

This is not innovative. Elliptical chain rings have been around for a long time. I remember having one on my Look back in the mid 90s

ya what's up with extending cranks plus biopace, that sounds like complete overkill to me.

absurd! spend less energy by reducing your upper body movement - THEN LEARN HOW TO USE AN EFFICIANT PEDALSTROKE!!
B.T.W. in the early 80's, oval chainrings was experimental. why are they not used today you think?!

this isnt even biopace. it just moves the bottom bracket forward of the saddle more, similar to a shallower seat angle.

Currently I am testing PowerCranks for improving running .
What is the influence of your product ( if any ) on running performance ?
Any similarities to PowerCranks in biomechanical way ?

Thanks for replying .
I am going to focus on PowerCranks religiously for a few months in order to write a report .
If you would consider me in your tests I am a game in a few months .

My Kuwahara had that setup on it 15yrs ago. It was discontinued because your feet speedupand slow down every revolution and it is hard on the knees.
