  • It's hard to imagine any live music performance ever quite touching these heights. Barely controlled insanity delivered at the very edge of the soul. Scary. Beautiful. Courageous. If contemporary music ever ends up on the dock surely this will be the used in the defence's closing remarks.

  • this is my absolute favorite version of the song so magnificent :)

  • This has always been my favorite version of this song.

  • This particular performance of Mercy Seat is my favorite ever of Mr. Cave. Even more than the studio version.

  • my favourite nick song!

  • It took my breath away. I 'm sure i couldn't breathe for the last minute or so.

  • I think you can really see Warren Ellis' influence on this version of this classic. There is more than a hint of the Dirty Three here. Fantastic.

  • I like the version of Cash (a hero anyway), but this one's definitely better. Very, very haunting. :)

  • we got to be greatfull that cave and cash do the song so well, and thank whatever gods there are that girls aloud or westlife aint done a cover :)

  • urghh like will young covering 'light my fire' (shudder) or westlife doing 'desperado' ... :)

  • quick get me a bucket, I cant stand all these boy + girl bands, X Factor winners and poo like that its rubbish.its just a way to fill the pockets of the simon and the tv compony.

  • I liked Rhydian because he was different. I wouldn't buy his album though and I definatly prefer people like Nick Cave.

In fact Rhydian is the only person off the xfactor that i remember the name of.

  • or whatever girlband that was that sampled personal jesus. Urgh

  • both great versions, although Cash's version misses out the important words 'down here' comparing the throne of god to the electric chair, i know i'm being picky, but those two words carry a lot of meaning.....

  • I agree its one thing thats bugged me about cash's version other than that I think he does the song justice but still that line is hard to overlook.I cringe whenever it gets to that part so I do not think your being picky

  • oh god.i wish iwas this microfone so i could feel all this passion 100%

  • i like this version cave is amazing but cash`s version makes you go wow.people dont give cash a chance they think country music yuk but his later stuff was amazing like hurt, rusty cage, redemtion song with joe strummer, cash even sung with cave

  • i like cash's version, and i do like country so it's not a "yuk" to country music; but this is just spectacular, amazing to play loud (but then any good music is).

  • intense

  • This is so wonderful.

  • It's pointless comparing Cave and Cash. They both make this song shout at you in their own way.

  • i herd just about every version of this song, and this one is my favorite

  • Same here, and this one is by far my favorite version too.

  • me too!

  • This is bloody brilliant! Nick Cave is the King!

  • its better. originals are always better in my eyes

  • I like both versions. Nicks original is shatteringly intense while Cash puts quite a different spin on it. More resigned. As befits a guy who really is near the end of his life I guess.

  • you're clueless

  • maybe nick cave&mick harvey two of the most talented musicans, unbelievable song...

  • Awesome, thanks for posting that.

  • isn't this from God is in the House?

    Amazing DVD concert..

  • Yes!

  • jop it is ... great koncert

  • Great! Thnx 4 posting this! He seems so fit, the performance is amazing. Any ideas who plays violins here?

  • to oczywiście WARREN ELLIS

  • It's from 2001!
