  • This song evokes happy memories for me, just before I went to 'Nam as an infantryman. It seems that all the songs we heard over there on our transitor radios just bring back bad memories. I am so appreciative of the music of that era...peace and love...which helped me make it back home.

  • I think everyone can relate to this song one way or another with parts of their lives as puzzle pieces. Then? everything fits to complete the large picture.. Thanks for the song! Great band.. aloha

  • Again, I song I always cry when I hear. Helped me thru some tough times in the late 60s

  • i should have known you'ld bid me fare well

theres a lesson to be learned from this and ive learned it fairly well

  • Bruce Woodley of the Seekers and Paul Simon wrote this and other tunes together when Simon was in London while the Seekers were there charting with hits such as "I Know I'll Never Find Another You" and "A World Of Our Own."

  • I loved this song when it came out. When I was in 3rd grade I stopped by my friends house to walk with him to school. He looked shocked and depressed when he answered the door. He asked "did you hear the news about Alan's dad last night"? No, what? "A bum went into an abandoned train car and found him with his head blown off all over the inside from his own shotgun". This song was playing on the radio when he said that, and everytime I hear it, I relive that moment again like a gut punch. :(

  • @audiotrax2000 It's weird how music, even when it's all happy and unrelated can make you flash back to the past like that from all those years ago. I loved this song, and then it was like I realised for the first time that sometimes life was just black and horrible for some people. Just hearing those first few happy organ notes makes my stomach instantly feel heavy and nauseated every time. Sorry.

  • @audiotrax2000 Wow,that's sad.For me the song takes me back to when my childhood friends moved to LA, was 1966.I get a sad feeling and this song brings me right back to that time, feeling. It;s a great pop song, being a songwriter myself I love the song.So its bittersweet.Music is transformative.Peace to u.

  • @larciabella: I'm a song writer too, and I don't want to anything away from these artists great piece of work. Usually, I'm not morbid like that, and yes, I do believe music is transformative :) Peace to you as well.

  • @audiotrax2000 Sorry for the gut punch. Really. Music evokes memories of every kind and they're not always good recollections. As is your case with this tune. Think how many Vietnam Vets are haunted by hundreds of this eras tunes pumped out of Radio USA while in 'Nam. It's just what you associate with the sound. Black and horrible? Yes, for some. For others? Can't speak for them. But this song may have saved my life. I think it did. Peace...

  • Paul Simon is not in this band but he wrote the song.

Just as Paul McCartney wrote all of Badfinger.s stuff.

  • @SHM1953 Badfinger only recorded one McCartney song.

  • Ah! Did anyone notice the reason they kept laughing?! The guy would mess around on the guitar haha

  • WOW This is really excellent quality picture and sound

  • Better than s and M

  • The set looks like my 6th grade science project...making DNA out of toothpicks and gumdrops! Lovin' it! :D

  • I love Starfish...another youtubegram

  • I never knew they had double-neck guitars in the 60's

  • @shutdafup There's nothing new under the sun Clyde.

  • Good song - a don`t think so irishace11 ;-[

  • I was 13, I was in love, and this was playing all the time lol

  • They all committed suicide when they were in a cult. They put on jogging suits, new gym shoes, and stuffed their pockets with quarters. They were supposed to catch a ride on a comet. So very sad.

  • @irishace11 You're full of sh*t. Nothing of the sort happened. According to Wikipedia all but one are still living and doing well.

  • I remember hearing on the radio back then that they were going to be the opening act for the Beatles when they toured. This would've been in the mid-60s.

  • it's funny how those hair styles do not look dated.

  • @auntbecky Hello Aunt Becky! I've been a performing musician for over 30+ years and I absolutely agree with you. Not only have the hairstyles held up, but the music as well. GREAT observation ~

  • nice catchy and bouncy song. To bad they don't music like that now. So sad.

  • @sassyron1 We have to keep this music around for the next generation. Otherwise disney freaks like Justi Beiber and Jonus bros will take over. :(

  • The guy on the right looks like a VERY young Paul Simon. (IMO)

  • The lead singers were very cute!

  • Thank you, Thank you, Thank you SixtiesPopGold

for uploading this video and the others. I have no

clue where you found this material. At the time, I was in

my early teens and didn't have a TV to watch. Yes, believe it not, no tube.

These groups passed and I never saw them perform. I'm so grateful

to see these after all these years.

  • There are only 5 strings on that guitar!

  • @roatans It's a bass guitar. Unusual combo; six string on top, bass on bottom
