what was the damned video where they were vampires sitting at a dinner table and its like spinning??????????????????????????????????????????? I think it was the damned?
good sir Dude, I feel I must respectfully oppose your proposition pending further evidential criteria, but do pray tell and enlighten us of Rozz Williams.. ??
@okcomputer1016- They're definitely different if you compare the album bthe album Damned,Damned,Damned with grave disorder. They've got a new one out called so, who's paranoid? which i'm eagerly watching my mailbox for it's arrival. One of the best bands ever!
@okcomputer1016 Roman. He's the tall guy from Wales. One of his parents were from Yugoslavia.. He did keyboards as a fan and sessionist on Strawberries, and the tour.
@okcomputer1016 They're really quite different when you compare DAMNED,DAMNED,DAMNED with GRAVE DISORDER. I'm waiting for SO,WHO'S PARANOID? to arrive in my mailbox!
I love this song. So many boring nights at work passed quickly with it in my ears ... but I always think the bassline starts off a little bit like the 'Postman Pat' theme tune! :)
this is my first ever damned song, and i think that it will always have a special place in my heart. i like all their music that i have heard, whether it is their earlier punk stuff or their more goth-rock work. they are just amazing!
This is my favourite track from the Damned! I used to listen to this, some years later after its release, along Xmal Deutschland's "Matador", and Killing Joke's "Adorations", plus a lot of Slowdive and shoegazing things.
I was 14 and well into them, The Damned were by far the best group to come out the other side of the 70's punk scene! Takes me right back! Excellent thankyou so much for posting this!
met Dave at Knotts Berry Farm Halloween Haunt in 1987 going back and forth in a long line...we talked as we passed each other time and time again..I was about the only deathrocker and I knew about them being in town, so I asked him how their show went with the Ramones the night before and we struck up a convo...he was the kewlest and got me and my gf into their Palladium show the next night. We got to hang out with them in the trailers in the back parking lot of the Palladium....what a night..
Wow 1985! I was 21 years old when this album came out. I remember the album being milk white it was soo kewl! Good times; I was going dancing at the Goth Clubs, throwing up in my car from drinking too much, going home and having sex with people who's first names I didn't know. YEP GOOD TIMES
I love getting nostalgic like this! I also enjoy when others get nostalgic about their life experiences. I had a great time when I was younger; going to Otis-Parsons School of design,(B.A. Fashion Design.) Seemed like their was a dance club or band to see almost every night. Life was so much simpler then.
D.V. The ultimate Goth!! Modern day groups can only follow in his footsteps! I can remember hunting shops for months just to find one item of clothing or a pair of shoes to be a 70's Goth.lol
So called Goth groups today are nothing more than sausage jockeys in drag.
I see them every time they come to Glasgow and it is mostly their punk stuff they play! i doubt the rest of the band would agree to a renaissance of phantasmagoria lol!
the damned always will be classed as punk. phantasmagoria was their way of moving with the times, as dave vanian put it. lots of bands were doing it then- like when the stranglers did `strange little girl`. it certainlyshowed a new side to the damned, and people who didnt like the hard core punk started to listen to them. they r bloody talented. still are.
I forget the album, but it listed the 20 or so members of the damned, a typically four member band. As f'd as they were, Vanian held the band together, and phantasmagoria shows the real artistry behind all the craziness.
This was no sell out, but a symphony, playing the first 5 songs of this album is a real musical feast, the emotions drag you to the bottom of the mosat of the castle, then lift you up with 'there'll come a day'.
im amazed there are folk who still love the damned! and feel the vibe lol! id love to know whether there are any young fans out there? at 31 im still young to like them lol! x
I'm 45, even played punk a few times. The damned were great, but David Vanian really held the band together (as it were) through all the members, and he was really musically talented and creative. He didn't substitute emotion for artistic effort.
check out early wire, pink flag is a classic, the three johns were pretty cool too.
They were so much better to listen to than the Ramones.
I totally agree, dave was really innovative for the time and experimented! The damned di do punk the dave was the true goth and deviate with the dark side lol with phastasmagoria etc He liked the Hammer films I think lol. I think he took it far more seriously than the rest of the band. I just love them an Dave! an it's great to meet other fans as I am lonely lol x
Exactly! Dave was very consistent. As the bio on the back of one of the albums says, even rat left for a time. The lyrics were good to start with, and just got better, deeper. and the whole thematic album sound was so cool, not the easiest thing to do.
As i said before, David Vanian IS the _Gothfather_!!!.
Yeah, It was mine too, but I was a grown up teen ager, I realize now that I´ve always been dark!! and also I check that all the main goth issues that appeared afterwards were already featured with this amazing band. A pity they didn´t make it great, just a cult band.
So glad they still rock on. First heard this song on The Young Ones, but never heard much of them afterward. I remember a whip in the Young Ones video, I think.
you're right. Since I posted that I got the box set of the Young Ones.
It was still one of my secret favorite songs, and that's coming from a former hardcore metalhead headbanger from the 80's. I'd love to see it on Rock Band or Guitar Hero.
The Damned, The Cramps and Motorhead are very different bands but they belong to a group of us that have a hard time sharing. I'm just happy I was around when music was really good. Maybe people should stop arguing with each other about music and start getting pissed at the music industry for all the crap they try to pass as music now. Just a thought.
the tags can be whatever they need to be to attract certain different groups of people who may be interested. you could put hair and make-up if you wanted to. they can be anything.
