If unification is the goal for the Dalai Lama to create in his society, I really do not see how banning Dorje Shugden practice will help make this situation come true. In fact we see more destruction of brotherhood, divisions, sectarianism and disharmony amongst the people.
I totally agree with Guru samaya part where by no one, not even the Dalai Lama has the right to interfere. It is like forcing your point of view on someone and telling them that they should break their Guru samaya.
In Tibetan Buddhism, keeping Guru samaya is most important for spiritual growth. DL gives instructions to practitioners to stop practicing a deity which has been propitiated for 300 plus years. To the point that monasteries split, families separated.
The ban contradicts the very basis of guru samaya... how do practitioners reconcile the commitments they made to their lamas to do the practice and listening to the dalai lama (who, in some cases, may also be their lama?).
The reasons the dalai lama have given for the ban also aren't logical. And its true what SUNNY has said it is a samaya between practitioner and DS, and the lama who passed them that lineage. DL cant interfere in that actually.
It's quite interesting. I personally think that the Dalai Lama cannot actually ban people from practising Dorje Shugden because this practice is between the students and the teacher who has given them this practice.
wisdombeing - i like what you're saying. I do believe it is possible to mutually respect both Dalai Lama and dorje shugden. Perhaps we don't agree with one side or the other but, like you said, it's a personal view. We can have our own views and practices but at the very least just respect others by not attacking them, putting them down etc. We reflect our religion, teachers and practice best that way, don't you think? :)
Whether the Dalai Lama is a Buddha or a charlatan, i think it's a personal view and we shouldn't judge each other for our views. I love Dorje Shugden and Dorje Shugden has said that we should not criticise the Dalai Lama, so i shall not.
This ban has caused much heartaches and separation. May Dorje Shugden practitioners remain in harmony and rise above what we experience. This is our opportunity to strive for some form of equilibrium.
This is be shown on CNN and all western media who portray DL as religious leader who promoting democracy. What a shame! It is all lie. He is not religious leader. He is a politician who uses religion as a cover up for his own gains.
Bottomline is Dalai Lama wants to be the emperor of Tibet, period.
