always liked this performance but usova zhulin were a bit more fun and childish/[playful at the same championship. lovely to see maya in a dress, unlike the strapless number she wore at the 1994 olympics (i think)
Oksana and Evgeny simply deserve Gold medal after this perfomance. Some british team ROBBED them and they must be ashamed and return those Gold european medals to Oksana and Evgeny.
Unbeatable couple forever!!! Oksana Grishuk and Evgeny are the best out of the best!!! Young, beautiful, fast, outstanding technick, Fun to watch, very light, amazing edges, great program!!!
They are the best ice dancers that the world will ever know. I am so glad that I am old enough to remeber the Lilehammer games. I fell in love with them there and they changed my life forever. Ah memories.... I am sure Torville and Dean are good but they don't come close to Oksana and Evgeny.
one word..Bolero! one number.. 6.0! That's Torvill and Dean..you ask the general public and a) they say bolero b) they say straight 6.0s c) they can all hum the tune to bolero
That was the genius of Torvill and Dean and other legends of sport..the ones who can go beyond just their sport and become part of language..everyone knows Torvill and Dean..unfortunately, apart from those in ice dancing, no one would have a clue who Grischuk and Platov are
OMG I LOVE this FD!!! I can't even imagine any of the other couples being able to skate this fast or with this much difficulty. It's just such a shame that the US media demonized them for stupid things such as separating during their sbs footworik. This routine really paved the way for the modern era of ice dance.
Oksana and Evgeny Had standing ovation for this dance even during rehearsals. All the Skaters, coaches, ISU members and the rest of the audience were screaming from excitement and clapping even when Oksana and Evgeny would skate a small part of this program.
Oksana and Evgeny WON TWICE Olympic GOLD 1994 and 1998, also they won 5 Times World Championship and 3 Times European Championship ( one of that Worlds they won in junior with different partners).
They ARE in Guniness book of records for being the ONLY team in ice dancing to win Olympic Gold twice. BRAVO!
i thought the choreography for this program was sublime.
as for all the T&D supporters, get over yourselves, it is a subjective sport and at the end of the day the judges preferred G&P over T&D. it could have as easily been U&Z or T&D at the top but it wasn't. deal with it! i personally liked G&P best. T&D should be happy they got gold at Europeans (thanks to G&P ironically haha)
When I first saw this programme, I IMMEDIATELT SPOT THAT MANY MOVES COPIED FROM TORVILL AND DEAN'S 1983 ROCK AND ROLL ORIGINAL SET PATTERN. (except T&D skated faster than these two) Get over yourself, apart from stealing somebody else spouses, these two steal moves and routines as well. BTW 'Frozen' dance was stolen from a routine in T&D's tour when they turned professional the first time.
any ideas why G&P weren't penalised for being separated from each other for more than 5 seconds at the Olympics? They broke this rule on three separate occasions..!? yeah it's dead subjective hey? arf arf! Anyway..one word..Bolero!
This FD changed ice dancing. Technically, it was simply out of this world at that time. Artistically, I would place it a little lower than T&D's "Mack and Mabel", but it was great nonetheless. A masterpiece.
Record for the number of 6.0s? I think you'll find that Torvill and Dean hold that record with 155 over the period 1978-1984 and again in 1994. Beat that.
From 1988 till the end of eligible carrier 1998, Pasha never lost any of competition, received a record number in history of the highest marks - 6.0 in the period from 1994 to 1998 and setting new standards for artistic beauty and technical in ice dancing. Pasha has won a record of Gold Medals (total 26), become the only Lady in sport history to receive Olympic Gold Medals Two Times one after other in 1994 and the other in 1998! She is in the Guinness Book with that success. And I love her :)
They are every where..In my myspace adress, facebook ,hot mail,im my telephone,in my room,in my computer.I love them. They are so special for me.But they dont know this.I am sure that if they knew it they would be surprised because I have a record, too. The record of watching them. They are perfect.
Just another Russian couple???!?!?! Why did they win two times in a row the Olympic title? because THEY were the best ice dance couple ever! For four years they were unbreakable at the top... so do not say that nobody knows who Grishuk & Platov are...
It just has so soul. Nothing special about it. T&Ds dance was completely the opposite.
And BTW, T&D are not retired. They are still touring and working as hard as ever and in January have a third series of Dancing on Ice. They're stars again after slipping into some obscurity after they initially stopped in 1998.
Nobody has a clue who Grischuk and Platov are. T&D revolutionised ice dance. G&P are just 'another Russian couple'
Too many separations, IMO, but their speed and her agility, especially, can't be denied. This paved the way for what may be the best FD ever -- their "In Memoriam" in 1998.
Mailbuses - T&D slow? Rubbish. Old hat? Also rubbish. The ISU had said that it wanted a return to ballroom dancing after ten years of 'show' pieces like this one from G&P. T&D did do a very traditional style of ice dance, because that's what the ISU asked for. The judges instead gave the higher marks to the show pieces. Strange..
unholyteddy - totally agree with you. Loads of moves stolen from T&D.
Nevelstraum - I've seen loaves of bread which are more seductive than this. Honestly.
How on Earth did that win gold? It's rubbish compared to T&D (and Usova and Zhulin for theat matter). It is instantly forgettable. It's sloppy, their timing is painfully bad (especially in the Olympic version). The lifts generally don't fit the mood of the music at all and were merely put in to try and get technical marks. Although T&D did do the same in their Olympic program, the lifts fitted in perfectly with the music.
I think this dance was playful, sensual, and had a controlled like abandoment to it all. Absolutely seductive...and the hot thing about it was I don't think they meant for it to be so.
This is a messy performance, feet and steps out of sync. I can see quite a few moves copied from Torvil and Dean's routines. They are far from the perfect and near perfect marks they were given.
To Unholyteddy: I love Torvill & Dean, did not like Grishuk's attitude (personality wise), but clearly they had the edge. Their FD was technically so difficult, they deserved to win the Gold. Every turn (twizzle), choctaw, bracket... was done with high degree of difficulty.
They were much looser and cleaner here than they were at the Olympics. This was truly the breakthrough performance of their careers, and paved the way for them to win the Olympic gold medal a month later.
Its the best dance they ever did and i'd say its hard to pick between this free dance and Torvill and Dean's but if you take into account the Original and Compulsory dances, its clear that T&D were robbed of the Olympics and should have won this competition outright and not on a technicality.
err 6.0? really? Wasn't that good!

Oksana is one of figure skating's brightest Stars and a true phenomenon. Only once
or twice in a century does a skater or performer come along that is blessed with pure talent
and charisma. Oksana is just that phenomenon.
