Actually this is a "DOSE", its a setup where you relocate the airflow meter from induction pipe to intercooler piping and swap your rubber induction pipe (on mouth of turbo) with a short (usually 12cm long) metal pipe + pod filter :D
This act is harmless when using a metal turbo making under 25psi of boost and ceramic turbo making under 17psi of boost (Y)
For a "DOSE" at its finest, search "VL TURBO DOSE" and look for the teaser one. Its set in Australia with AUDM cars :)

This crap about it kills the turbo, you guys don't know shit. My Escort has been running a Harvey Gibbs built engine with a T4 Turbo and Anti-Lag for well over 3 years and not once has the turbo let go from the Compressor Stall. The T4 is a fantastic turbo, strong and reliable and heaps of fun.

right throttle butterfly shuts so its got however much boost pressure in the inlet pipe thats gotto go somewhere so it goes back down the turbo making it stall hence turbo stall, but the exhause gasses are still spinning the turbo which is why u get that noise its the turbo speeing up and slowing down. so if it had a big turbo making high boost bout 25 psi or more it wud snap the inpellor shaft on the turbo. thanx.

What are you goons talking about? Wastegate chatter? It's called compressor surge. You apparently don't know exactly what you are talking about either. Surge occurs because the BOV doesn't vent all of the air out of the piping, thus causing the air to circulate back into the turbo. This causes the turbo to spin the other way which yes, will kill turbos.

Actually it's just that he has no blow off valve, nothing at all to do with a wastegate. Close the throttle and boost pressure goes back through the compressor wheel and out the intake. It isn't compressor surge either, that's an entirely different beast - read your fluid dynamics text books! My car does exactly the same thing. If you believe it damages the turbo that's your business but there are just as many people who believe otherwise.
He may do that is still not wastegate chatter...wastegates can make a noise but not that noise it is different. That is compressor surge. As I said in a previous post there are huge articles about this and a lot of them explain the different. And the kinds of noises each makes. That is making the typical compressor surge noise. And I don't care if Cosworth designed the car with a recirc valve because virtually all modern turboed cars have them. They can still make that noise.
I would still have to disagree with you, i doubt that Cosworth would fit a recirculation system that was of no use in stopping the problem... I also think you're getting confused between "compressor surge" and "compressor stall", and their relationship.
They are technically the same thing. Just stall is more commonly used when referring to turbines engines on planes etc. In a car it is more commonly referred to as compressor surge and is most notably associated with the flutter. Which many people mistake with the waste gate making the noise. Just different terminology for the same thing.
its a dump valve with the vacuum pipe off causing the piston to be forced up rather than pulled up by the vac. it then "flutters" causing that nice sound. not healthy for the turbo tho...

@857804 I don't have a cossie, I wish I did, but I raced an audi A4 1.8T with my ford escort GT 1.8L DOHC BP05 motor, CAI, Neon SRT4 full exhaust swap, fixed the VICS "problem" and I didn't fly away from it, I walked away. Nonetheless, I did win =] I like this car by the way.

Well, apparently you don't know you cars, coz the Cossie will smoke an A3 1.8T Any day! Your A3 has 150 - 170 HP stock.. this Cossie has 220 HP STOCK... Hell, it'll even smoke a 2.0T

lol no problem mate, i take it u new that was how it works then. to be honest it is an easy assumption to make because 99 percent of people think it is called wastegate chatter. i agree nice car too like them in that colour on saphs

right throttle butterfly shuts so its got however much boost pressure in the inlet pipe thats gotto go somewhere so it goes back down the turbo making it stall hence turbo stall, but the exhause gasses are still spinning the turbo which is why u get that noise its the turbo speeing up and slowing down. so if it had a big turbo making high boost bout 25 psi or more it wud snap the inpellor shaft on the turbo. thanx.

note, its not actually speeding up, its just slowing down.
and no 25 psi wouldn't snap the impeller shaft, would just be louder and higher pitch compressor surge (which is what the sound is)

What are you goons talking about? Wastegate chatter? It's called compressor surge. You apparently don't know exactly what you are talking about either. Surge occurs because the BOV doesn't vent all of the air out of the piping, thus causing the air to circulate back into the turbo. This causes the turbo to spin the other way which yes, will kill turbos.

i've always run turbos without gay valves and they have never broke,only with a GT turbo i rub one coz those do break coz the shafts too thin

Actually it's just that he has no blow off valve, nothing at all to do with a wastegate. Close the throttle and boost pressure goes back through the compressor wheel and out the intake. It isn't compressor surge either, that's an entirely different beast - read your fluid dynamics text books! My car does exactly the same thing. If you believe it damages the turbo that's your business but there are just as many people who believe otherwise.

He may do that is still not wastegate chatter...wastegates can make a noise but not that noise it is different. That is compressor surge. As I said in a previous post there are huge articles about this and a lot of them explain the different. And the kinds of noises each makes. That is making the typical compressor surge noise. And I don't care if Cosworth designed the car with a recirc valve because virtually all modern turboed cars have them. They can still make that noise.

I would still have to disagree with you, i doubt that Cosworth would fit a recirculation system that was of no use in stopping the problem... I also think you're getting confused between "compressor surge" and "compressor stall", and their relationship.

They are technically the same thing. Just stall is more commonly used when referring to turbines engines on planes etc. In a car it is more commonly referred to as compressor surge and is most notably associated with the flutter. Which many people mistake with the waste gate making the noise. Just different terminology for the same thing.

its a dump valve with the vacuum pipe off causing the piston to be forced up rather than pulled up by the vac. it then "flutters" causing that nice sound. not healthy for the turbo tho...
