Of course this video is very inaccurate. The building proccess is pretty much the same in the US. However in the last 50 years the Gov in the US meddled with the loan precess and eliminated the 30% down payment requirement for lower income people. Thats what caused the housing collapes. Germany has been doing a lot of things right but anyone can run a corner drug store. Its a differant thing running a Wal-Mart like in the US. How's that whole EU thing working out for you?

@oebw333 I guess you know the german pension age then - it is since 1964 67 years to reach full entitlement, while average entrence age is currently only around 63 years. So it is really a tiny minority that can work till age of 70.

The main difference is that the brick construction will make it far more expencive to overhaul then a wood frame construction. Of course this video is very inaccurate. The building proccess is pretty much the same in the US. However in the last 50 years the Gov in the US meddled with the loan precess and eliminated the 30% down payment requirement for lower income people. Thats what caused the housing collapes. Germany has been doing a lot of things right but anyone can run a corner drug store. Its a differant thing running a Wal-Mart like in the US. How's that whole EU thing working out for you?

@Sideshowbobx well to talk about the "german work" its not the same i had to learn 4 years (for plumber) in that time doctors do their medicine exam. and for example the TRGI (technical rules for gaspipe installation) saves u to dont come into jail when somebody try to manipulate it. because first they look if u did something wrong while the installation. and dude we dont shit in our drain system like the british guys do :D

@oebw333 I guess you know the german pension age then - it is since 1964 67 years to reach full entitlement, while average entrence age is currently only around 63 years. So it is really a tiny minority that can work till age of 70.

I'm from Germany and after watching this video i realized that it is kinda build in in us that we want to have a house to live in for the rest of our lives...that's my big goal too...
It's fascinating that in germany building your own house and use it as a base to build up a family still marks the top of your live...
I think that is something it's worth for working (Schaffe schaffe.... :D )

@OrDog696 Come on, the halflife of a german brick house is 20-30 years till it needs a major overhaul just as a well build wood frame house. The main difference is that the brick construction will make it far more expencive to overhaul then a wood frame construction. Lets take the plumbing, on woodframe you just remove the drywall, in a brick house you have to open the solid walls first. And you got to be stupid to work hard in such an high tax & redistrubion environment anyhow.

@whaleshark85 What does it matter if all is build on inflation - the same that ruined the old power (UK,CCCR,USA and on day red China). The prosperty you refer to, the GDP, is measured in inflated currencies without any backing. The production output sold for new inflation, so the only prosperty they got is inflation as well. Japan is in a contiuess currency crash for that reason, and so is Europe as Germany - once with it D-Mark and now with the Euro. Don't be fooled by bogus data!

The German economy is not especially successful.
Between 1990-2010, the German economy has been growing extremly slow. The average annual GDP rate has been close to zero.
Compared to a truly well functioning economy like Sweden, where the Volvo V70 is the average car, Germany is a big joke.

Volvo is that the only thing that you produce in Sweden? Made in Germany stands for quality and that is why we export so much even although our products are very expensive.
